Hello you / Salut toi!
Last week you probably have discovered my first post about the day-to-day product's design...
It was Gillette.
Today, it is time to present you Laszlo Biro, the guy who invented the first ball-point pen.
Laszlo Biro was born in 1899 in Budapest, Hungary and died in 1985 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Being a journalist, he uses the printing ink to write, but this one is too dense to be used with the fountain pen. So he started to create his own ball-point pen. The patent is registered in 1943 and gets funds to launch the pen manufacturing.
Imported in the UK for the army use, the ball pen doesn't leak on the plane. After the end of the war, the pen is world known.
Before it became the mass market product, the ball pen was considered as a sign of wealth.
If you like this series, don't hesitate to let me know...
Cheers!
