You know why?
Because cars are uglier than sailboats. All this talk of Elon Musk's Cybertruck makes us ignore the fact that cars look mediocre and we have not explored car design space enough.
With buildings we have Zaha Hadid's dreamy futurescapes, we having boring suburban homes, we have glittering cathedrals, we have homely barns, we have bold art deco skyscrapers. With cars we have a narrow sliver of acceptable designs. I'd be okay with a narrow range of acceptable car designs if the design was beautiful. But cars look merely fine.
We can do better.
