in designing101 •  7 years ago

As a full service UX designer I have to know a lot of stuff. The latest trends on design, design systems, but also development, branding and marketing. But what is also important? SEO. You want your website to have a great SEO so that it can be found quicker and better by people. The same is for Steemit. You want your articles to be found quickly and throughout all the new posts. In this little series of SEO on Steemit I will guide you with the fundamentals of SEO and how to use it as your benefit.

So what can you expect?

  • Dominate in your niche topic
  • Become a source of valuable information in your niche
  • Drive tons of new users as traffic to your posts
  • You can create a lot of followers and in turn get more income.

When this series is not for you…

  • When you just want to blog about a lot of topics. You have to choose 1 or 2 topics.
  • When you’re just in it for the money.
  • When you don’t post on a regular basis. You want to become an icon so you need to post daily.

Step 1: Define your niche

Your niche is most important. This is your preparation phase and before you write any blog post you have to decide on what you want to blog about. Just take 1 or 2 topics. The best thing is about your hobbies or passion. It makes it easier to write eventually! But why define your niche? Well people are reading things because they want more information on it. They want an answer to their question.

The question can be anything. Perhaps someone has a problem about the use of a camera and you can give camera tips or someone needs vacation tips and you are a world traveller and write about the locations you like. It can be literally anything! But your blog should be focussed on answering that question. So first define your question and then solve it.

Defining your niche is also important to link each blog post to an other. When you use links in your blogs it will optimise your SEO score.

Step 2: You have to know your niche!

Knowing your niche is important and requires some research. The most important part is the language you’re gonna write in. Your followers must know what you are writing and you have to speak their language so that they can understand it. When you do this people will read all your articles and check out more of your blog.

If you chose a niche that you are passionate about than this shouldn’t be an issue. Then it will come to you and you know the vocabulary that is used on that specific topic. But if you chose something new to expand your horizon you have to do your research or choice an other topic. Don’t make it to hard for yourself.

Next to that there is Keyword Research. Doing the research on keywords will help you pull out the best keywords to use. Start looking up what people are looking up most and use those. Take notes on what you find and store them somewhere so you can check it out every time you need it.

Step 3: The layout of your blog

You defined your niche and done your research. You’re set on those fronts. Now you are defining how you’re gonna work and gonna plan it out. Your content has to be relevant and your blog can cover a lot of topics around your major topic. My designing101 episodes where about design but I talked about marketing, branding, colours and more. It was all related to design and that worked. Your content can go as deep as you want but has to be relevant to your major topic. It has to relate.

Ending Part 1

There is a lot of SEO that you need to know. This is just the introduction and in the upcoming parts where gonna talk about planning and moving forward and becoming an icon in your topic!
