I am at the age when I want to retire and move somewhere ideally warm.
I am on the rainy West coast of British Columbia.
After some deliberation with sis, we are seriously deciding to sell and buy abroad, namely Nayarit, Mexico. Some homework is in order and we are going back in October to check some real estate. As well, taking some Spanish will benefit us as well.
I do not see a leisure life here as our taxes our extremely high as is the cost of living. Unless we want to split a radish, a green onion, and a slice of tomato, living here on a pension is not ideal at all. Moving to New Brunswick is affordable but who wants a brutal winter when one is going to need a walker eventually.
Our condo here is near the tent people. Some are homeless, some are addicts and some are criminals. We have had our buildings broken into, below our green belt and balcony we have caught two of them doing drugs. My taxes are high and theirs, they pay no taxes, and I heard, a lawyer is representing them. They get arrested and guess what, our laws are protecting them, not me. Our medical, ambulance picks them up, and chances are, when my turn comes, guess what, I will have to wait, and probably, not make it.
Do I feel safe in Mexico, absolutely more so, than in my own back yard. Am I willing to try another culture, ABSOLUTELY. I came from Europe, ended up here, and now want to end up somewhere warm and affordable. Open the box of chocolates and see what flavor awaits us.
