The disciples had received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) and gave proof of it through the life in common, the communion, that is the blessed life. The books of the acts of the apostles tell us how the great charisms of the spirit, such as mercy (compassion, gentleness, kindness), piety (constancy, firmness, devotion), and perseverance, were manifested through the small acts of the daily life of the apostles.
The communion is more than a sacrament, that is a visible sign of the presence of Jesus in our lives, the Kingdom of God cannot be built on spiritual rites, masks, or formalisms: "For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings" Hosea 6:6.
The common life as the gospels teach us is how God wants men to live: "Be holy, because I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16; communion is the opposite of a society built on fear and on walls. The commandment of love taught by Jesus ("Love your neighbor as yourself" Mark 12:31) was present among the disciples, and thus the primitive church was progressively built.
The Kingdom of God like a hidden treasure that had been found, like a love that springs from the heart, grew among the believers, and this spiritual treasure was more valuable than money or power, as the book of Acts relates:
"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people" Acts 2:42-47.
