The Chosen

Long before Christ stood upon the mountain by the sea
The prophets told how He would come again for you and me
When all had been completed in the tenets of His Word
Before the Resurrection and our journey heavenward

They told of His first coming as a Baby in the stall
And how He'd live and suffer as He sacrificed for all
His life of spotless purity that never did one sin
To be the Lamb of sacrifice to cleanse the hearts of men

And then how His own people whom He'd chosen from the start
Would lose that special promise as they kept from Him their heart
And how they would be scattered over all the earth to see
Their choice of His rejection had detoured their destiny

To be the special promise to the gentiles who would fall
Upon their knees in honor of the One Who came to call
All sinners to repentance at the sound of Jesus' name
To make them Jews by promise not the ones who bear the blame

For failing in their calling to reveal to all the world
The promise of salvation from the one who here was hurled
Who caused the great rebellion in the heavens long ago
For which the Jews were chosen to let every nation know

But now there is confusion as so many still believe
The Jews to be the chosen for the promise to receive
But their probation ended when they stoned the one who came
To share the truth of Jesus and the power of His name

For Stephen the first martyr of the Christians who were saved
Who stood for Truth in Jesus Who was Chief among the brave
Was martyred on the timeline that the scriptures tell us of
A signal of the promise that the Lord had shared in love

Would judge them as a people who were first among the blessed
But failed in their rejection of Messiah in the test
That showed their hearts were evil for the lies that they preferred
To Truth that came from heaven through the One that they had heard

But turned against not knowing as so many think today
Once saved they have the promise that the Lord won't take away
But scripture tells us clearly only those who still believe
And live their life in Jesus Christ will be those who receive
