Would You Go Completely Paperless, Adapting To The World's Digital Future!?

Be More with Less? "The future you see, is the future you get!"

Arn't you tired of too much clutter and tons of paper you collect in your homes and offices over years?  I saved every contract, documents, bank statements, magazin articles, I even found printed emails, piled up for decades but last year I finally took the first step. I burnt most of those stuffed up folders in the back of my Balinese garden and Yes, I feel free!

I collected some tips:

- shoot your receipts on your phone and don't bring them home.
- stop printing things.
- use Instagram for photos
- go digital with banking and bills.
- find one place to store your files like me in Dropbox.

Exploring the world's digital future

Wow! I officially entered into the digital future, the crypto-space and so proud that I am capable to adjust to a different world.

Strive for freedom!

I am free to go, wherever I want with the most important life data, stored in just 1 Mac Book Pro, boosted up to 1 huge terabyte space. Just imagine for a minute how amazing this really is. When I grew up I never thought this would be possible. We do not need to be tight to our desks anymore. We can read or write books on our tablets, travel and work, be creative, create artwork and music, keep in touch with dear friends wherever they are.

Cisco Systems believes that in 2016 digitisation should be a priority, as technology strategies will play a critical role.- Source

John Chambers, the executive Chairman of Cisco Systems, has been involved in building the infrastructure of the Internet since the 80's and on his trip to Doha he noted in Feb 2017 : "You're going to have three to five times the impact of the Internet in this new digital era. You can call it the fourth generation of technology or a digital revolution that every country, every city, every company in the world, every person goes digital". - Source

Ten years ago, the number of devices connected to the Internet was under a billion. Now, that number has exploded to 20 billion and it will continue to increase. Mobile computing, driverless connected cars and interactive fridges are a reality.- Source

I do understand that it all sounds totally normal for our kids but its not for my mother and not even for me. Most of my friends and people of my generation, born late 50's are having a hard time to adapt and I am sure its difficult for many to let go of our ways. Recently, I had to explain to my oldest friend how to create a gmail account and that you can save your data in a cloud.

We are the generation who used the first mobil devices and I couldn't even walk in my high heels, taking out the huge portable phone box, set up in my Peugeot 205 convertible but we were so proud with our mobil phone of those days.

So, Please forgive! :)

The first cellphone went on sale 33 years ago for $4,000 and I got the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X.

My message for the older generations : Embrace Change!

"In terms of the interconnectivity of our daily lives, Chambers offered an interesting point: "When Cisco started in 1984, there were 1,000 devices connected to the Internet. Today, there are 17 billion."In 10 years, 500 billion. The whole key is to get the right information, at the right time, to the right machine, to the right person to make the right decision. The end result will be new business models. You will probably live five to 10 years longer because we'll improve the quality of healthcare so much." - Source

Of course it was not easy to change over those past years, catching up with new technologies, now even go paperless 1000% to let go off so many nostalgic items, especially paper books I love so much.

I turned up my favourite music and destroyed every single bank statement( I felt great). I hesitated to throw away some of my paper pictures, even though most I already lost years ago in a New York storage. I still feel romantic over those and couldn't let go of them.

It took me weeks to set apart the legal documents from paper clutter. Unfortunately we still need those original docs for government offices. Crazy enough, I lost that "important stuff" bag weeks after my arrival in my hometown and had to run around for weeks to get copies. What a nightmare!

Yesterday I heard about the Investment Punk Akademie based in Vienna and I was curious, started searching and ran into this Ted talk from 2015 which inspired me to reflect upon my progress what I do to embrace the future!

I could shoot you mammasitta. Here I sat reading your post about cleaning out the chaff of life, minimizing, and saving trees, and life moving on line and digital,,,,then I see the first set of comments between you and richq11.

I really am trying very hard to keep down the number of people I follow so that I can have Time to see what they are writing and time to learn from those I follow.

Oh no you and @richq11 get into it about, of all things, pen and paper writing. I do not write, I read. I love reading. Now you have inadvertently introduced me to another writer. That was bad enough, it could have stopped at that point, but NO, I just had to keep reading.

And what do I find? The title of what sounds like it may be a good read. But it was not just the title. NO it had to have a III after it. Yes book 3. So now I know there is a series going on. A story that last longer than one book.

And the title The Night Gods III. I have read just a couple of lines, so now, now, I Need to read it. Damn you, one more to follow.

Great post mammasitta, I am not going to read anymore of the comments,(yeah like thats going to happen), because I don't want to be sucked down another rabbit hole, and God knows you have enough followers like @richq11, to lead an army down all those holes. Have a great day, and thanks for the post.

Hahahahahhhhhh I love those kind of steemian real people :) Can't say more than its awesome knowing you !!!!!! Now you are on top of the comments list.

Good post my dear... My problem is that I can't write fiction without pen and paper. When I tried to write dialogue on the computer, it comes out stiff and wooden like- "Hello, Bob how are the wife and children" ... "They are just fine Jim, thank you for asking."

When I do it on paper it flows better- more conversationally- "Hey Bob, how's the wife and kids?" It's from years of academic writing where contractions are a no-no! So...

I hear you because I feel the same. Oh, how do I miss the sound of a vinyl ! scratchy and real !

I'm getting a big scary knot growing on my knuckle of my "writing finger." It's hard as bone (that must be what it is). I go through 1 or 2 pens a week. I have my writing ritual... I get up at 2:30 or 3:00 AM, get my coffee, put on a Charlie Chan movie on YT (my morning Chan) grab my notebook and go to work!

I can't even write anymore with a pen.
I admire that old school authors rituals!
That's why you are a great writer!
How did it go with your power down?
I am thinking of doing it as well.
I spend too much time on the laptop since I am in steemit. My back hurts every day even though I balance it.

The response to my post was so incredible I didn't have to power down much. The first allotment was 365 (approx) steem so I cut it off there.

That's another reason I write with pen & paper- I can sit in my comfortable chair to write then I edit while typing it in. Thank you for your kind words!!! I'm already working on The Night Gods III (I have the concept/storyline in my mind) How's this... In the land of the blind, a one-eyed man may be king- but in the realm of the dead and dying, a spectre reigns supreme.

I hope you would get a book deal and I can get a nice book full with lots of classic paper :) that I can read the whole story at once. Bring it on Rich!

The guy that did the art work for NG II and I are doing it with I & II... He's doing the art and layout and I'm doing the text. That's why I'm doing a rewrite and repost on part I

thats awesome news !!!

All goes so fast !

Too fast for me

I can see you can adapt well to the internet kind of things,,but things imare bit different here,,even now a highschool kids having a gmhardtime to make a gmail account. ( have made for them alot of times)
i guess it will take more time in Bali. . .

Take it slow ! Just like the internet speed a few years ago and still now but all that will also change very fast in Indonesia soon.

Great post @mammasitta =)
I believe the only remedy to this would be to follow the steps of our ancestors, they wasn't polluted by a political, moral less, material system... Let's legalize the mother hemp... Before U.S Regan President & the deal they made with dupon chemist factory for nylon & cotton mono-poles plan, all book, clothes, ropes, boats kites & many other was all made from 100% pure hemp fibers.
With the cannabis plants we can reforest any place in less then a year!!!

Hopefully peoples will open them eyes & start to act the right way...

Big love, thx for sharing & caring ;)

BOOOOM!

I wish i could, but there are so many different government institutions that require to keep tons of useless invoices, reports, records and other shit that i think it is impossible at least for now. They adapt so slowly... And i enjoy reading a good paper book :) That is more of a luxury entertainment. Real, analogue, smells good and has it real feel :) So probably no, i could not live without paper. And don;t even know what i would do in a WC lol

Watch that clip at the bottom and you know what you could use instead of paper for your butt :) but hey I am with you on the old classic paper books, same goes for nice scratchy old vinyl. Its hard to let go but if you loose your stuff like I did, moving around, you might have to be more flexible and let go of those piles of pages and start reading pdf files :( grrrrr, I know I know .....I can't wait until I get a sweet robot reading for me because I am "blind" without my reading glasses and its hard to read late night.

I read my newspaper online but when it comes to reading or learning then there is nothing better than the smell of a fresh book.

I agree with you 1000% but I realize that slowly I am changing ....

I went digital for banks ---> they keep sending me letters. I guess they love to spend.

I was thinking of an apple pro for drawing recently saves a ton in paints and paper for drawing and doodling.

Of course the real paint is the thing that produces marvels, steem on mamma sitta!!

They better stop wasting too much paper and rather use it for their toilets hahaha !
Please don't give up using real paint and canvas 🤣🌺

An excellent article and advice in it @mammasitta, I agree with you that the future will soon turn into an electronic form and paper red tape will be a thing of the past!

We are right in the middle and just wait until we all get private AI robots reading is from our favourite books . Damn! It goes all way to fast

@mammasitta,
Yes, the digital future will finish the paper works completely. But yeah we need paper works!
Anyway now the money already converted to the digital currencies like crypto also! Everything will change to the paperless world as it is... but it will take time :D
Great article and great discussion! Really appreciate your effort!

Cheers~

We are right in the middle of the digital revolution and I can't barley keep up with it all

Great Post. It's crazy how massive the change we are going through is.

I am only 20 and am just now at a point where I can position myself to take advantage of the current changes in the world. This post just makes me just a little bit more certain that crypto is the next big change and Steemit is the platform to be on!

For me, it's been like in the middle of a hurricane of massive changes, in all areas, especially in music! I was there when they pushed the first electronic button and oh wow ! ......what a feeling to hear those sounds.

That's wild! So cool. I bet that seemed unimaginable when you were growing up

I could tell many more stories! It's incredible what development I experienced in just a few decades 😜

The world is definitely moving towards paperless, evident from many emerging technologies. Some paper still wouldn't hurt though, as some people prefer to hold a physical book rather than reading an e-book off a kindle :)

I am one of those for sure but I am transforming into a digital monster :)

we still need paper mamma, for example toilet paper (tissue) :) (kita masih butuh kertas mamma, contohnya tissue untuk toilet) :)

Hahaha ! Not really. Just look at those Japanese toilets or let's get some AI,s to wipe our booties

@mammasitta - The world is slowly adopting to paperless world. But, personally I believe we need paper works for some extent. Nice post Ma'm. Love your work. Therefore, I wish to ReSteem your post.

+W+ [UpVoted & ReSteemed]

less and less ......we advance fast

well agreed yes the concept of paperless is improving day by day and i think it's great development. upvoted and resteemed,

If you watch the clip i added you will see what impact paperless has on our globe. At first I rejected the idea to let go of my paper books but when I researched more I have to say ....Lets use japanese toilet flushes instead of paper :)

amigo #resteemia at your service

the world already entered to the digital era. no more paper works in most of places now. useful article @mammasitta

Danke Danke Danke !!!!

very nice post, i agree with your vision of paperless, but there are still some countries where paper work is more preferable than going digital.

For now , yes! This will change quickly I believe

I'm not yet completely got rid of the papers, but I'm going to... ;)

Here is something else really interesting I just found http://gopaperless.com/green-commitment/

The Paperless Future
A number of technologies have emerged that is changing our business culture and trend. Social media tools like blogs, discussion boards, instant messaging, Facebook, and YouTube are drawing people into reading information online, interacting, sharing documents and photos. Popular among the younger generation, these tools are also being used by businesses to distribute electronic materials, develop trainings, seminars, and distribute company news and presentations.
Hardware technologies such as tablet PCs and cell phones allow for the creation, manipulation and distribution of electronic documents. Software technologies such as electronic fax, email transmission, document management, secure backup and online storage are creating a strong case for removing the clutter and shuffle of paper in the work flow. Packaging the hardware and software technologies into a unique mobile computing solution allows businesses and individuals to be mobile, to be green and go paperless.
A number of benefits are achieved by going paperless:
Reduce business cost associated with paper, printers, copiers, fax machines, ink and toner cartridges
Eliminate filing cabinets and reduce office space
Conduct business in a mobile environment resulting in faster responses to customers
Increase efficiency of your staff by removing the time spent searching for and sending documents
Present a professional image to your customers with mobile computing solutions
Create faster business work flow by eliminating the time wasted on getting paper signatures on contracts and forms that need to be hand delivered
Secure backup of all documents
Real time updates and delivery of documents
Conduct business environmentally friendly and brag about it
And much more…

Good analysis and great promotion for steemit. I really enjoyed this one. Agree with your view of the future.

you think so ? PR for #steemit?

sorry my mistake Promotion for betterment of future and long term vision to save paper and save trees to become paper less environment.

Hmmm interesting bot

I hope you like what it's doing. Incase any inconvenience, please reach me out ^^

I need to check a bit more but it seems your bot reacts in the tag #steemit ! ? Let's see ....

It shall post for every tag possible on steemit. The delay is caused by the processing and steemit limit for the commenting within a few seconds. I'm not sure if I correctly understood what your statement meant. What do you mean by react?

I mean , every time somebody writes this tag your bot will answer ?

world is moving quickly , good sharing, upvoted

Way too fast for my taste ! I am still old school deep inside

me too, i don't want this machinery life...

We still have a choice though, for now

Super dupa cool Peugeot :D

I had the exact colour and style and loved it

cool, they told me they drive pretty fast and are often used in rally races.

Mammasitta racing through the streets :)

Have a good day there

I had one of those when I was in my 20's

ow just a few years ago :)

ontopic: Maybe im olscool, but I really like cash money in my pocket. I tried to order food with Btc once. In stead of 15 euro i lost 40 euro and they kept on asking for more Btc. Few hours laters still no food. :S Day later I got my money back.

Same with a trainticket, I just want a paper ticket. In stead of a ticket on my phone.

Before we know it we end up with a chip in out but.

have a good evening/night there.

I totally understand you and I feel inbetween 2 chairs but I try to adapt and have fun with the so called new ways. It's good enough that I know the good old days. Some kids don't even know what we are talking about 😜

Hmm just read my reply and maybe it can sound negative.

Im also enjoying the benefits of living in a modern society. And im well aware that life will always change like it or not. Plus like you said it's good enough to know about the old days.

Do you know the comedy movie Idocracy hopefully we are not heading to this way of life.

peace

It has to be the way forward @mammasitta and in fact, it was the whole 'paperless' aspect to crypto currency that initially got me interested in Bitcoin. A paperless society it not only green and eco friendly, it will create a lot more space for everyone. Great post and Upvoted.

Voila ! I don't like paper money! I fell in love with crypto and don't go back anymore. I am looking forward to a greener world :)

Greener is the future my dear, for sure.

@mammasitta if we asked about growth of digital revolution which is spectacular. And scientist had do great jobs right now we all are surrounded to digital which is great for us.
If we goes to paperless which is really great for our nature and Yupp it's a great things. Because our first priority is to saved our nature and tress our duties is to protect our tress.
I feel phone is top most inveting things in our world with the help of we can easily contact to someonelse just in seconds.
Truly thanks to you sharing with us these amazing articles.
Big thumbs up.

You understand the point I tried to make ......I also found a great article here on this site :
http://gopaperless.com/green-commitment/

GoPaperless Solutions has created a vision to take business into the paperless future! The environmental impact of paper production, processing, and distribution as well as the business costs and efficiency losses of using paper has been a driving factor for GoPaperless Solutions business model and product offering.
Consider some of the environmental impact of using paper in our business:
Statistics

Cutting trees that release oxygen for our environment
Energy usage and release of harmful gases in pulp and paper industry
Fuel consumption by air, rail, and road transport distributing reams of paper
Fuel consumption sending paper documents via ground & air courier services
Manufacturing printers, ink and toner cartridges
Consider the following facts about the paper and ink industry:
Paper consumption has tripled since 1960 and Americans generate 85 million tons of paper into the waste stream
The U.S. pulp and paper industry is the 2nd largest consumer of energy
EPA estimates that more than 400 million ink and 100 million toner cartridges end up in landfills each year
The average U.S. officer worker prints 10,000 pages per year
Consider the environmental impact of just 10 million pages:
2,500 trees
56,000 gallons of oil
450 cubic yards of landfill space
595,000 KW (kilowatts) of energy
(Data Source: www.epa.gov)
So why is there still this perceived need for paper in the business work flow? Many people still believe that legally binding documents must be signed with wet ink signatures. As a result, this leads to printing masses of paper that are couriered to customer locations, signed and stored in filing cabinets and vaults. However, legislation has been passed to legalize and enforce electronic signatures. It is no longer uncommon to sign for a credit card purchase at a store or receive a FEDEX shipment by signing on an electronic pad that records your wet electronic signature. Using software technologies that capture your wet electronic signature just makes business sense!

I am amazed at every post @mammasita, which is easy to understand. Good article

Awwwwww, I am blushing :) Thanks so so so much

Having less paper is great since you can carry your whole office with you on a cell phone. The shift can be hard at first but I think you're right, it's worth making the switch.

Its such a privilege to have the opportunity to work from anywhere we choose . Thats a huge difference to the days I grew up.

I already got rid of my paper life more than 2 years ago and that's because I hate papers and they annoy me. I can say that my life now is 100% digital and that makes me more comfortable

I am ALMOST paperless. Well, if I exclude the VISA, but I, unfortunately, have to pay for that because there are still no Bitcoin ATMs in the greater number in my country.
Still, if I could pay with a code, why not.
It is faster, cheaper and far cleaner.

As a Talent booking agent I had to pay tons of transfer fees moving money around the globe! What a nightmare. I am glad there are different services now and I haven't seen a bank for months. I continue my journey to go more and more paperless! Makes sense to me.
Where are you from? I also had to deal with visa stuff in Indonesia for over 16 years. Another nightmare!

I am learning about digital world, because in Venezuela is neccesary. I think so everybody must learn this. It's very hard for me, but is not impossible.

I tried to go moneyless for two years, there was very little clutter in my life. I felt peace but I thought I'd like to share that peace with others so I've gone back to a semi-regular (still far from regular) lifestyle.

I try since years to go to the so called "minimal" lifestyle but it's harder than I though. I still love to hold those bills in my hand but mostly I do all online or with plastic fantastic :) I am glad if I don't need to see those banks.

Hey @mammasitta! Have you got any link for that Minimalism documentary? I wanted to watch it once but have never found any free link. But now it's been quite a time after its release, do we have any link where I can watch it for free?

I'm a minimalist for about a decade now. But I don't think this world will go paperless any day. We can always strive to consume less paper but can never go paperless. Papers do have their own advantages. But I believe this digital storage will make it possible to manufacture 100% of the paper from sustainable forests. We won't need to look for any certifications like FSC then 😉

It was a great read. I can identify with your feelings. Wishing you good times!

All I try to be is a minimalist but its harder than I thought.

https://vimeo.com/ondemand/minimalismfilm

Enjoy!!!

OMG! This one is the same link I had visited last year. It asks for $20! I'm better off without watching it 😊
Did you watch it? How was it?

Thank you so much for this link! 💓

Congratz, you just have been resteemed by @pixresteemer!
(All right but who is pixresteemer?)

Thats awesome ! Danke !!

pixresteemer_thumbs_up_mini.png

great post mammasitta! keep it up! and thanks again for following!

I try I try :)

you know what?? I like the idea but honestly, didn't try to do it but why not to apply your tips, I will start applying your tips and let's see how the result will be

Let me know how it goes !

I agree that leaving out papers and going digital is better but it can't be 100% achieved suddenly, it just need time and one can do it gradually

completely paperless is a bit tough but if we take a move towards it then why not !!

Agreed <3 you love paper books ahan ;) btw whats the name of your favor music lol ? :D

Very interessing post thank you for sharing
