China has launched a pilot version of a mobile wallet for working with digital yuan e-CNY in iOS and Android app stores, BlockBeats reports.
Users can download the app and experience "registration and personal wallet management", as well as "e-CNY exchange and circulation services".
The Institute of Digital Currency Research of the People's Bank of China is listed as the developer of the wallet. To download and activate the wallet, the user must be in one of the locations participating in the tests, including the venues of the Winter Olympic Games.
"This application is the official platform for interacting with the digital currency of the central bank of China for individual users during pilot tests," BlockBeats notes.
Earlier, the media reported that the Chinese authorities demanded that McDonald's add support for the digital yuan before the start of the Olympic Games.
"The Winter Olympic Games are a test platform for the digital yuan, so it is quite expected that retailers of all kinds, including domestic and foreign, will have to participate at the direction of the authorities," explained the consulting firm Trivium.
