Did John Dillinger Die on July 22, 1934?

John Dillinger was a famous gangster during the depression years, he was a bank robber and was the boss of an infamous mob gang that caused terror in the Mid West even though some people looked at him as some sort of Depression era Robin Hood.

Dillinger was supposedly killed in a stake out after he was sold out to the FBI by a woman known as the Woman in Red, the job was done while he was leaving a movie theater in Chicago, he ran into an alley and there he was shot down.

So far that is the story but now I see that some members of his family are now saying that they don't believe that this is what happened and that the person buried in that tomb is not Dillinger who actually escaped from the ambush. The story is believable because they say the person who was shot had different eye colors from Dillinger and several other discrepancies. If they do exhume the body we will know if this is true or not.

But what I really want to tell you is a story my father told me. In 1934 on June 18, when he turned 15 my grandfather who had something to do with shipyards gave him a motor boat as a birthday gift, this was near Santa Barbara, California. Well one day soon after, he was on his boat alongside the pier when a gentleman showed up accompanied by a very beautiful woman and this guy offered what to my Dad was a lot of money if he took him and the woman to Acapulco.

Well my Dad was actually a very decided man and he took the offer, he sailed to Acapulco dropped them off and returned home, once back he says he saw the picture of the man in a newspaper and it turns out it was a famous gangster from the East. After seeing the Dillinger affair and how it is possible that he didn't actually get killed in Chicago I have been doing some searching and some facts do fit, Dillinger was killed on July 22, 1934, he had a girlfriend who left Chicago a few days later, and of course he would have wanted to leave the country.

This is of course a very slight possibility, the most likely thing is that Dillinger was killed in that alley but it makes me wonder. Of course it could also be that me Dad was bullshitting me as I have no way of corroborating if his story was true.
