Aleksa's Book Review: How to Disappear

in disappear •  5 years ago

Few books hit me as thoroughly as this one did for the mere fact that I found myself doing so much of what the author specialises in - various forms of legal debauchery that lead one to discover the whereabouts of places and persons. The author goes from his personal story about a manatee lost in a canal to the intricacies of search engine cleanup and it's quite difficult to place where the major shift happened.

The book goes into various cases of how the author located persons of interest, and the creativity exhibited must be read to be believed. For entertainment value alone, the book is is a pearl of mirth in an otherwise bone-dry subject matter written in most part by constipated bureaucrats.

Information about setting up offshore companies, muddying the waters, pretexting, social engineering, and many others stand on offer and are easily digestible for the interested reader. Other advantages to the book are its relative brevity and denseness - it's an exquisite read, which can lend serious abilities to those with a capacity for it. This is why I'm giving it my title of BANGER OF THE WEEK.
