Jesus and the disciples: But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. Luke 9:45

The Gospel of Luke relates that Jesus taught the Beatitudes in the Sermon on the Mount, explained parables, and also performed many miracles such as the healing of a centurion's servant and the resurrection of a widow's daughter, but the figure of Jesus in this situation was always shrouded in mystery. While Jesus preached in the region of Galilee his actions and words can be compared to those of many prophets like Elisha who also performed some miracles similar to those of Jesus.
The Lord in his wisdom also referred to himself only in a very brief way and used the term "son of man," a spiritual title that is mentioned a lot in the Books of Ezekiel and Daniel in the Bible to refer to these important prophets. This is why neither the common and simple people, nor even the disciples themselves, were able to fully understand Jesus as the personification of the perfections of God. Many mysteries of Jesus could not be understood rationally except through grace, as when Peter through the Holy Spirit recognized Jesus as the Messiah, something that after hearing, Jesus asked to keep in secret. The truth is that many teachings and explanations of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, can only be understood through the spiritual gift of understanding, and not through simple human reason; this is why the promise of the Holy Spirit made by Jesus was fundamental to the birth of the Church at Pentecost.
It is for all this that when Jesus prophesied for the first time in the gospel of Luke that he would die crucified in the city of Jerusalem, his disciples were astonished, and the gospel with these words described the situation:
"´Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.´ But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying" Luke 9:44-45.
The Kingdom of God is an invitation to seek and contemplate that wisdom that only God can grant because it is only through her that Jesus can be truly known.
