The holy spirit: He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith

The apostle Paul had made his first missionary journey and had begun the conversion of the pagans, and in the church of Antioch the followers of Jesus received the title of Christians. It is then that the first council of Jerusalem takes place, a serious doctrinal conflict had arisen inside the early church, some Pharisees converted to the new religion argued that all Christians should be circumcised and observe the law of Moses, but others instead maintained that the rite of circumcision was not necessary and that salvation could only be obtained through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
The acts of the apostles tell us about two important speeches during the first council in Jerusalem that determine the path to follow for the early church, the speech of Peter and the speech of James. The speech of Saint Peter, the successor of Jesus, is the most important speech and explains the action of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of wisdom, in the Church, this is how the speech is related in the book of the acts of the apostles:
"After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: ´Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are´" Acts 15:7-11.
