Discussion: a little idea: **To stop vote rings **steemCreated with Sketch.

Guys if i might propose:

I just posted in this Vote ring post, to cast a 100% vote of my meager SP to any of them who refrain from participate in vote rings for a week and create a post with some good content using my curation tag. #rockdio-votable

Source: Steemit i think

.
Those posts usually get only a few cents worth of votes but if we don't do anything early they will become the rule.
.

Of course my 40 cents might not be enticement enough and I would like to use them for supporting great content, so if you are willing to give a hand by supporting it I can hack together a little report of reformed users so some of you with more SP can help me encourage good behavior?

Most people does not understand were this free #STEEM comes from

The reward pool comes from controlled inflation meaning new tokens are created to pay for the effort of authors.

When you use this ring votes, you are actually draining the rewards pool and thus taking the money that should reward people who works hard into creating value and great content to share and giving it away.

I understand one can think of it as free money, but new tokens generate inflation and inflation drops the value of STEEM so basically you are hurting the system.

Would you help me to make steemit grow and last ?

Going after these small potatoes is like saying the tip jar is going to kill the restaurant industry because it makes going to the restaurant too expensive. The REAL voting rings are the whales who vote for each other without any contests, but just because they get bigger curation rewards for rewarding their friends.

These little contests are simply a way for plankton to be able to help each other grow since there are not enough whales and dolphins to assist all of the little specks of dust that have joined Steemit. If you stop these contests it will only encourage MORE use of vote-buying bots because there isn't a lot of hope for many people. These contests allow growth to the point where the plankton can actually become a minnow. Once there, they will have acquired a bit of a following and reputation so they can then continue growing without the use of the vote ring. Getting started is the hard part and I don't think we should take away the little bit of help they create for themselves. These little rings are like the coins that drop on the floor that nobody bothers to pick up, so the person sweeping the floor gets to keep them.

When these rings begin taking hundreds of dollars out of the reward pool for each post, then those are the ones we need to be concerned about.

@osmerj here has a valid point, what good is to have 3200 followers if your free money posts are seen by 10 people?

Were is the reach and engagement ?

Building engagement is what really pays out here. Quality and engagment are key to earn STEEM !

He also proposes to work together towards a common goal... Which is in the spirit of what i dream of building.

Saludos

Hi @nnnarvaez,
I agree with what you say and have said it so many times. People take it that either we are jealous of whales or want attention.

It made me want to speak no more and even writing in my blog became harder as I don't feel motivated to write for people who do not appreciate my efforts.

As for the giveaway, most people that do these giveaways are minnows or planktons. They don't make a lot but they still share what they make. When I first started on steemit, these initiatives helped me feel supported, even though the money generated was nothing to be considered helpful even.

I decided to make my own sharing. Just a way to make other steemians feel supported. Sometimes I get an upvote from a big guy that increases the reward payouts which is great, other times its not so much.

When you don't have enough money in real life to invest in your SP, its hard to grow or get noticed.

I think the main problem is that whales are getting all the upvotes from other whales and even from dolphins and minnows. Thats were you get the circulation of money becomes stagnant. Many people vote them because they want curation rewards as well.

So it is eternal problem of human greed feeding itself.

Thanks for the post though :)

I discovered after trial and error, that what really pays out in steemit is giving...

I agree those seem a good incentive in the begging, but then you should realize that they rarely take off.

When i decided to invest I had in mind creating a cooperative effort where were share the load, I have found in here people that thinks like me and we are working together in building the place we want it to be, were equal opportunity is the rule and efforts are either recognized of compensated.

The main problem i have with what many of you call "plankton" vote rings is that they tend to attract the gold diggers and the quick buck profiles and actually kinda encourage the lazy ones.

In steemit if you do the proper networking (because steemit is a tool to build human networks) you will find beautiful projects to encourage healthy growth of the network. (I.E: untalented contest )

I wish to have more SP and be able to achieve greater things for the greater good, but since it is not the case i decided to keep giving what i can and keep building trust and links between humans in the hope to get noticed and get some help.

It is not easy, it demands a lot of time, but if one expects to actually achieve dreams that is what is needed.

I insist, I understand your point, let's find together a way to make things better for everyone and keep people motivated but by putting our efforts where they actually mean something and make a difference.

Speak with @happyme, he's got good ideas, I fully support... My SP might not be enough to change the world, but what little could be done I'm willing to do if it is for a worthwhile cause.
