Awareness to be grateful

Today is World Cancer Day. The aim is to raise awareness and deepen research for a cure.

Each cancer has different characteristics, just as each patient is unique.

Beyond the type of cancer, the stage or prognosis, the mere fact of having cancer triggers an endless number of alarms and psycho-emotional conditions that predispose us in a special way to each circumstance, no matter how elementary or insignificant it may be.

We feel more vulnerable and sensitive. Sometimes irritable and impatient.

But cancer doesn't just affect who we are diagnosed with. The shock wave of this disease has a great reach in our environment.

Mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, wives and husbands, grandfathers and grandmothers, friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbours... Everyone, in one way or another, is affected.

Those who accompany us throughout this disease suffer from the impotence and pain of not knowing what to do, what to say or what not to say, how to accompany, how to give encouragement without falling down the common places, how to relieve, distract or make people laugh....

Today I wanted to thank all those who have no voice, those who live the disease next to us. It is an extremely difficult task to know how to help, support... to be.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, dedication and dedication.

Thank you for the words of encouragement, for each smile, for the kisses and hugs.

Thank you for wiping our tears, watching our sleep and accompanying us to medical appointments.

Thank you for respecting our silences, for understanding our crises and our moments of euphoria.

Thank you for listening to us, for supporting us financially and for helping us make food.

Thank you for the long-distance messages, prayers and wishes to feel better.

Beyond helping to raise awareness of cancer as a disease, today I wanted to take the opportunity to thank each gesture of affection of all the people who, despite their impotence, give everything of themselves to help us carry the burden of anguish and accompany us on this uncertain path.

Thank you all for your love and for making our day-to-day life better!
