DIY 3D Printer Filament Monitor (Weight Based)

in diy •  7 years ago

Hi !
I was looking for different ways to follow the filament usage, I think the weight method is nice, it can answer the question do I have enough filament to print my part. I really like this idea.
You can use a cheap HX711 and an inexpensive load cell (about 3$). The precision is quiet correct.
Enrico Miglino managed to build one, it is a simple design base on the previous HX711 with a small Arduino and a LCD. I think it will be pretty cool to integrate this weight measure, with temperature monitoring, hydrometer and few other things.

Check out the link for all the details:

Of course, this system is complementary and we still need to be not able to detect the filament jam/roll or its presence, but I would like to see that on 3D printers.

Wow this takes the weight approach on filament to the next level :) did you build it ?

Not yet, I am going to buy a few parts on aliexpress for it.
