Todays Electronic Repair: LG Stylo Charging Port Repair Micro Soldering

in diy •  7 years ago

A customer brought in a LG Stylo that wouldn't charge. I took a look at the port under the microscope and saw the one of the pins inside was broken. Of course i didn't have the correct port in stock so i had to order one and it came in today!

The first step is to remove the logic board from the phone!

Next i use a temperature lowering alloy to easily remove the old port.

The Alloy looks like tiny beads under the microscope!

Next i cover all the rest of the components so they aren't damaged from heat from my heat gun!

Then i take a tiny pair of needle nose pliers and grab the old port and heat it up and the old one comes right off!

Came right off all nice and clean!

Cleaned the area with rubbing alcohol and tinned the contacts for the new port to go on!

I start in on corner with new solder and flux and get one anchor point in good!

After that i finish up with the charging contacts!

FLUX IS YOUR BEST FRIEND DOING THIS SORT OF THING!

After a few touchups and cleaning with alcohol to remove any flux left!

Then it's ready to reinstall the board in the frame and give it a try!!

SUCCESS!!

I love doing these repairs if you couldn't tell!! Watch our for more stuff like this in the future!!
