Sunday Bookmarks: DIY Quilted Jacket With Pattern

in diy •  7 years ago  (edited)

Happy Sunday, Steemians!

Today's bookmark is a shout out to all the fiber/fibre enthusiasts that I know are out there.

More and more, I am aware of our clothes. What lasts? What comes apart right away? How much did we pay for that? What is that made out of? In a world of $5 t-shirts, it is easy to get caught up in seasonal buying (and chucking out.) Yet the clothes that reward me with years of pleasing, reliable wear are almost always something for which I've paid just a bit more than I'd like.

When something does wear out, I try to find things to do with it, even if its just adding it to the rag bag. Say that three times fast.

So I was pretty excited when I found this Instructables tutorial for turning a quilt into a quilted jacket. I'd love to see it done with an antique cotton quilt. Preferably with one of my antique cotton quilts that aren't good enough to use on the bed anymore but might make an interesting jacket.

Would it be too heavy? Fibre geeks want to know.

So here it is:

Please, please someone make this and show us pictures! For now, I'm just going to keep it bookmarked and dream of the day I actually make it.

Thank you for sharing @kittyandcheese! It is quite an eye opener, all you need to do basically is make 2 holes in a blanket and attatch sleeves... so clever... I live in tropics so mabe can make bath robe out of large towel with the same way? Hmmm..

Glad you like it! Me too.

I think you could have some fun with the seam binding too, using contrasting colours or fabric.

Make it and show us pictures, please! : )
