Speeding Up Internet Connection - Making the line cleaner!

in diy •  9 years ago

Having trouble with my new internet provider-connection, having tried whatever resource i could find...
Noumerous restarts... different routers.. my ADSL up to 24mbbps (14 synching) Was refusing to connect properly...
It was connectis, by the line had so much noise... and although the line attenuation, was in normal levels.
The internet was reacting like a PSTN line.. or even worse..

I came to a point, i was afraid to ssh the server, in case of an internet disconnect, and loose my witness uprading or other stuff, cause some VPS centers, when you disconnect the ssh without screening, you loose what you were doing.

I gave another call today to my ISP, and luckily... and finally a person that knows his job, appeared.. He guided me straight to the line plug, in the wall... I took my screw drivers and removed the phone socket...

Removen the old socket, and turned it arround... To my surprize his suspicion was correct....
There was a capacitor inside the socket.. and an old one...

This capacitor was messing with the ADLS line filter... Thats why my line had so much noise...
Although capacitors are used to smooth things... This time the resistance was too high, and it was causing shortcircuits...

I went to the electric shop, and got a new socket, for 2.8 euro.

The new one doesnt have a capacitor, it is actually a straight forward connector, to the telephone line...

Installed it.. rebooted the router... and guess what...! Finally, after a month of getting tired and changing routers...
the line was normal, and my internet speed decent.. for its synching capability.

If you come up with the same problem.. try this... i didnt knew it... and it saved me, cause i was really going to change and try ,yet another time, another provider.

Good thing you got a tech that knew his stuff ! I work for a DSL / Fiber provider in Canada, and sure enough, most problems are caused by bad, old inside wiring (which is the customer's property and responsability). Kudos for fixing your issue :)

good idea)

I owned an ISP years ago. Nice DIY tip.
