I didn't know people use regular tap water without added salt to rinse their sinuses with neti pot. Neti pots are to be used with saline water. That is the recommended practice in the yogic tradition. Even rinsing with just boiled water is not encouraged. Boiled saline water probably would be better than just saline water.

In the yogic tradition practitioners are advised to use the neti pot only with saline water and to blow the nostrils about 6 time to clear the saline water. When such practices are adopted by the western world adaptations are make without considering the consequences.
