The Boston Red Sox are making cost cutting moves. The team had a quiet offseason outside of rumors. Now, things got a bit more lively.
According to reports, the Dodgers acquired both Mookie Betts and David Price from Boston. This move will save the Red Sox a fortune over the next few years.
Betts is one of the best players in the game. He is making $27 million this year and was not likely to sign an extension with the team. He is set to be a free agent after 2020.
To get Betts, the Dodgers had to take on Price's contract. He is owed $96 million over the next 4 years. Reports are the Red Sox are going to pay a big portion of that contract.
This is how it works in baseball. Outside the Yankees and Dodgers, team load up on players (contracts) only to have to start shedding. The Cubs were active the last few years and now are starting to move money.
