Americans have a fundamental right of association, and that includes the right to organize and engage in collective bargaining. Problems arise, however, when laws are passed to give unions the right to infringe on that fundamental right of association (by forced dues-paying and the like).

The key is to let people organize with a neutral legal framework. Tilting the scale either way either hurts consumers or hurts the workers.
