First DLive upload: Holly McNarland's "Beautiful Blue"

I'm migrating some of my older videos over to Dlive and Dtube.

As I've mentioned before, I'm in a place where I'm experimenting between YouTube, Dtube, and Dlive, and trying to figure out what's more worth my time/the best way to share with followers and find new listeners. YouTube is easiest use but frustrating for obvious reasons - however, like all of the non-decentralized social media options, as frustrating as it often is, the possibility of eventual virality/scalability + advertising spend makes it worth some of the drudgery. Dtube and Dlive seem to have lag issues while they are working out kinks, so unless there is direct and quick attention from committed DLive/DTube listeners to make it worth the switch, few Steemit users are patient enough when there is a loading issue, etc., so listens/comments/votes/follows can be a bit limited on those posts (I tend to not wait more than a few seconds and then move on - pretty standard for most of us used to speed).

So.. there has to be a pretty substantive gain in posting to the decentralized places rather than through YouTube as many of my regular followers won't engage those posts. I'm trying to work out the balance - which eggs in which basket? There is only so much of me.

Anyway: Here is my first run on DLive at the suggestion of one of my Steemit buddies! Hope you enjoy - it's a great song that was enjoyable to sing and play.

xx,
Kay

exciting to see great artists like you on DLive. Hope you find your place in the Steemit ecosystem!

Hey - thanks so much for listening. Glad to hear you enjoy my work! Hope to hear from you again. xx, Kay

You're an incredible songwriter. I feel like that's where you really stand out among the rest. I wish i could write like you. I've actually tried writing a song myself, but it LITERALLY sounded like what 3 year old would come up with lol. I'm more of a music person than a lyric person I guess. It would be so cool, though, if I could sing to some of your beautiful lyrics some day :) You seem to have come a long way with your singing as well. I could definitely hear that experience behind those vocals. You really sound like a seasoned performer. It's been a real pleasure following your journey here so far. Hopefully, I could get an opinion or two from you on some of my stuff. Yeah have a fantabulous day, ttyl friend :)

This one isn't mine, sad to say! But I'm so glad you enjoy my work generally, and I will take the compliment anyway :). So many kind words. Thank you. I will definitely try to listen to some of your stuff now that I'm settled after travelling the last bit.

Oh tru! lol. As soon as I saw an upload by you, I just clicked on it so quickly without even reading the title. Well the songs that you did write were amazing though.. And all the poetry stuff too :)

You have a beautiful voice

Thank you - both for the nice compliment, and for taking the time to listen! xx, Kay

@kayclarity, on behalf of the DLive Team I'd like to welcome you! Hopefully we will see a live stream from you sometime soon :)

Thanks! - considering it, although need to see I'm getting some traction first I think! xx, Kay

So I have some concerns about a livestream in terms of quality of the stream, and about getting regular Steemit users to watch it on DLive - there is commonly a lag, so I am experimenting with having a youtube video in the post as a backup - but it looks like I lost Dlive attention with that on the last one (makes it hard to accept the 25% cut without good reason--greater upvotes, etc.). Do you have any suggestions?

Where are you located? We are actually in the process of upgrading infrastructure and making the whole live streaming user experience better. Take into account that we are only 4 months old and not even at a version 1 yet. Also what do you mean the 25% cut? Are you talking about the curation reward that is part of all steem payouts?

That's awesome news! It really would be great to have a way to do a great livestream. I'm in Canada - how does that shake out? Oh, and don't worry, it's not a strong criticism!--I just want to be able to weigh whether it's something I should put time into doing if it's still in process.

You guys don't take the 25%? My understanding was that the decentralized apps took a cut (dtube and dsound do). It's awesome if you don't, and makes me much more likely to post there, even if I'm not getting a ton of traction at the beginning!

Thanks for your work. I'm interested to see how things unfold in the next stretch - so far I do like it and am excited to see the interface develop, etc.

Hey! Sorry for the late response, but DLive does not have any beneficiary rewards (25%). 25% goes to curation and 75% to the author and that's it. DTube and DSound do have beneficiary rewards, I'm not sure on the exact percentage but I know it exists.

I'm in Calgary and my live streams are pretty decent in terms of quality with my OBS settings at 720p @ 30fps. I do have Telus 150 download / 150 upload so that is probably why as well. If I can help out in any way just let me know!

Just saw you are in Canada, too! Very cool! More points in DLive's favour :)

I am also experimenting between yt, dlive etc, amazing voice , great video

Worth sorting out! Thank you :) xx, Kay

Agreed! I think @dlive has some advantages over @dtube at the moment - 1.) you can stream live 2.) you can upload videos 3.) you can edit the video’s thumbnail after uploading 4.) you see the number of views next to the vid, not only the payout and upvotes.

The upside of DTube is more users, but it’s also its downside because it’s harder to get noticed...

If Dlive makes their homepage not only about gaming, it will attract more people. Right now it looks just like some kind of a gaming platform - especially to an outsider coming here for the first time...

I think that Dlive and Dtube playback functionality has improved but it’s still not up to par with youtube. Also, Dlive could make their videos play within the busy.org browser - instead of taking you to their page....

We’re at the beginning of it all!

Good luck with your music ;)
