Is Sonic Boom the worst game in the franchise?

It's Sonic the Hedgehog's 27th birthday. Like most gamers the first few Sega Genesis games are among my most treasured memories. His transition into the third dimension was unfortunately as smooth as his hair. I know it's been beaten to death that the franchise has been a series of nightmares for the past decade (with some notable exceptions) but nothing really hurt me more than the huge re-branding effort in 2015 to re-launch Sonic as a cartoon series and video game at the same time.

That being said I do love Sonic Mania and will be making a full review in an upcoming video!

Sonic Boom is just plain awful. But yeah, I agree I do love Sonic Mania. It's just sad we didn't get a game like Sonic Mania on the Sega Saturn as it would have really done well in my opinion. Also, Sega really needs to stop focusing so much on Sonic and try to actually remember they have other IPs that would make great games in this era. Honestly right now even though Sega isn't doing anything with Shenmue 3, the remakes of Shenmue 1 & 2 HD as well as 3 are the games I'm looking forward to the most at this moment. Also if Sega would embrace their old IPs and gave the true fans what they actually wanted. There's no doubt in my mind that Sega could climb back up to be a true top contender in the gaming world.

Completely agree they have so many franchises that have all basically died. Afterburner? Alex Kidd?

Yeah, both good games. I'd personally love to see a new Streets of Rage or Panzer Dragoon game. I know Crimson Dragon is a thing but that's just not the same plus being an exclusive to the Xbox One just kills it for me. It was literally the only game next to Killer Instinct and Rare Replay that I'd even want to play on the console. Me and you could probably go on all evening and night going on about the endless possibilities that Sega truly has. I still need to pick up and try the Yakuza game series. It's one of the few newer franchises that still seems really interesting that they make today.

There was a spiritual successor to Streets of Rage called Raging Street. Well it's more of a tribute but still worth your time.

I haven't played Boom yet, but I was always thinking "How much bad it can be, to get this much hate?"

Save yourself the trouble mate. It's frustrating and mediocre at its very best.

Didn't really like Sonic games, except for Sonic R. Had so much fun playing with my sister going through all the secret shortcuts and getting all the secret characters

You're missing out, the old Genesis ones are golden. Even the spin offs are fun in their own ways like pinball and puzzling.

to be fair, i still think that 6 is by far the worst. the main problem really i think with sonic games is that they just don't work in a full on 3d environment. it is to fast past and is more of a ''race''. so unless you place him in a vehicle, it will work but defeats the object of ''sonic''. the 2d games were by far the best and preferred among fans. if they simply took some of the ideas from the indie side of the industry, they can still place him in a 3d environment but play like a 2d platform. forget the over complicated narratives, just go back to beat the boss at the end of a level with each following level getting increasingly more difficult. because that is what made the original as good as it is/was.

good game
