I’ve always been an advocate of the ‘long-tail’ of content creation, that is make something about what you love (i.e — the content/video) and put it somewhere on the web you trust — in this instance mine was hosting it on @dlive some three month ago.
Check out that @exyle post here
I originally answered the call for tutorials and help on the @dlive platform because they wanted tutorials for their help centre, you can find a bunch of my stuff in there from when they were just starting out.
The Long Tail, in a nutshell. The theory of the Long Tail is that our culture and economy is increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of "hits" (mainstream products and markets) at the head of the demand curve and toward a huge number of niches in the tail
Now we have v0.7 up and running with a bunch on interface enhancements and GIFTING — now while I was thinking MICRO about gifting in terms of being cool and quirky for live streams, especially for call to action ‘resolve a situation today’ I completely did not think about the potential for ‘evergreen’ content that you put on the platform.
The word evergreen is most often used by editors to describe certain kinds of stories that are always of interest to readers. Evergreen content is content that is always relevant—much like the way evergreen trees retain their leaves all year around
This morning (and as I show in the video) I got a mention in one of @exyle vlogs about tipping me $10 (thanks man!) for a video tutorial I did over three months ago on the platform — that’s right, he tipped me for the content that I did outside of the usual seven day payout we get from the steem blockchain.
wow. gifting on @dlive is going to be hugely powerful, especially if we can customise that interface for different goals. I was just discussing yesterday about bitrefill.com and have gamification there for ‘pots’ of funds to assist with low income or people in struggle to get basic bills covered to be able to collectively empower those creators.
Maybe they have a phone internet bill to cover at £35 a month — we might not want to spend that much in one GIFT but what if ten people watching donated £3.50 each and kept that person on the internet for another four weeks? — how far could we take that concept?
Twenty four hour back to back streams from your favourite steemians to raise money for charity through the blockchain? Can you imagine the kind of exposure that could bring to the steem blockchain in itself?
Thanks @exyle for the gift/donation and for inspiring me to write a little bit about the power of ‘long-tail’ video creation and ‘evergreen’ and why content creators should think BIG PICTURE instead of weekly rewards when it comes to this new decentralised age of media aggregation.
@dlive just became 1000% more useful than youtube in it’s short life compared to youtube that’s been around for THIRTEEN YEARS — you would have to wait four weeks for your adsense if they did the same thing but with the STEEM blockchain you get that gift near on instantly with ZERO FEES.. .
Is it not obvious where you should switch to live streaming today?
Want proof? Ok, here ya go. . ..
Much love,
T E A M H U M B L E
P.S — I took that gift and with some other steem/sbd sent that money to a bitcoin wallet I have for saving towards my daughters birthday at the end of the month making the whole thing easier to pay for when the time comes — yes, that’s right people BLOCKCHAIN is helping me SAVE!
My video is at DLive
That's really cool. I've been putting some stuff on dlive lately as it works for me. I still think they need to be clearer about what cut they take off rewards.
