Why does Dmania.lol not accept use of Posting Key?

in dmania •  7 years ago

So I'd like to give my Virtual Assistant access to post a few funny memes using our @libertyepodcast account on Dmania.lol but it requires one of the following:

  • Master Password - Basically the keys to the Steem kingdom.
  • Owner Key - The owner key is the master key for the account and is required to change the other keys.
  • Active Key - The active key is used to make transfers and place orders in the internal market.

As a reminder "The posting key is used for posting and voting. It should be different from the active and owner keys". Sounds like exactly what i'm looking for. I don't want my Virtual Staff having access to move funds out of the account, but only posting permissions.

Am I doing something wrong here? Seems like the perfect usage of the Posting Key, no?

Sort Order:

The active or owner key is used to sign a transaction that authorizes apps that use steemconnectv2 to have specific permissions. The apps themselves do not use or know any of your keys.

You can always revoke the permissions by going to https://v2.steemconnect.com/dashboard or you can go directly to https://v2.steemconnect.com/apps/authorized.

thank you. So should my VA be able to then log in using only our Posting key? That's ultimately what I want.

@ashe-oro I'm following @libertyepodcast now.
Good of you linking @libertyepodcast to your dmania account

Steem keys and passwords
Steem has five different keys or passwords associated with accounts. Four of these are used with typical accounts and the fifth is used by
witnesses. They are: owner, active, posting, memo, and signing keys. Each has its own set of functions and limits.

Posting key
The posting key allows accounts to post, comment, vote, and follow other accounts. This is what most users should be logging in to Steemit with every day, only using the active key when something to do with transferring funds or changing keys is necessary. You are more likely to have your password or key compromised the more you use it, so a limited posting key exists to limit the damage that a compromised account key would cause.

You asked if you are doing something wrong?
Applying the above on dmania ain't a bad idea.
I agree with your decision on your post here😊.

HAPPY STEEMING😉😉 👌👌👌

thanks. Why then is Dmania.lol requiring me to log in with the Active/Master/Password? I don't want to give them that...only the Posting key.

@ashe-oro good morning to you from me.
It's 9:55am here to be precise.
Dmania! Haha, this protocol requiring the most important key on steemit has put me in "Limbo"😊

I will do a research on your question as I'm humbly new on steemit and still learning the norms here.

It will be my pleasure to relieve you of the curiosity on dmania requiring your active/master keys.
Expect a positive feedback.

HAPPY STEEMING

awesome! Looking fwd to what you learn and share.

@ashe-oro finally my mentors in person of Discordiant and dante31 gave me a precise reason.

This is my report ;

Steem-connect is a trusted verification system that has the ability to help an app gain a posting authority on an account without having to share a private key with the app. You instead enter your Active Private key in to the steem-connect system (it doesn't save this I believe) and it then uses it one time to install a permission for the app on your account. This means you don't have to give the actual posting key to the app, and can revoke it's permission at any time without the hassle of having to reset your entire set of keys and master password.

IN SUMMARY

Steemconnect is the 3rd party seeking for your active/master keys and not dmania.
According to my mentors from our chat it says it's safe with zero worries.

I hope this was helpful.

HAPPY STEEMING 😉😉😉

great post! How can I pass off the account to my Virtual Assistant to offer them the ability to post without handing over the 3 keys that STeemConnect requires?

@ashe-oro I came across something today its zappl comment which enlightened it's users and clearing their doubts.

Here is screenshot of @zappl comment on @jerrybanfield 's post to a steemian user.
Please read the chat carefully 🍻

@ashe-oro that's how steemconnect works on dmania. It uses the active/master keys, it does not save the keys when you log them in.
But we can apply the scientific theory to pacify your worries ;

if you have a demo account you can test the steemconnect to dmania using the active/master keys.

Sorry I'm just replying your comment now.
I was tied down by bandwidth issues for over 39hrs and couldn't steemit.

Your favour to power my account up is most welcomed sir

HAPPY STEEMING 👌👌👌

what is the issue you are seeing with bandwidth? Basically you dont have enough SP to post and engage as much as you'd like? It's like you "run out"? Hopefully you can take those 100% upvotes and power them up to get more bandwidth.

yaah r "The posting key is used for posting and voting. It should be different from the active and owner keys".!
it actually used it ! it connected with steemit usernames and password!
yaah he can use your account as your master key!

Master Key is the password you got when you first signed up for steemit. and you can keep that.

Posting key is used for posting and voting. This must be different from the active key and the owner.

The active key is used to transfer and order in the internal market.
The active key that you can get by clicking login to appear with your master Key account steem,

These are the basic difference of all keys and these keys helps us to work on dmania.lol but these keys also secure us so that only specific permissions are granted to our account.

I think you are doing all right and in my opinion this is the best way to use the posting key as from this anyone can only post from your side...
so it is the best method as far as i am concern ...
Good luck mate :) Have a blessed Friday
