"The Hidden Dark Web Documentary" - Privacy Is Necessary for an Open Society in the Electronic Age

in documentary •  8 years ago

The title "Privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age" is from A Cypherpunk's Manifesto written in 1993 that you can read at https://www.activism.net/cypherpunk/manifesto.html

I've never used the dark web, but it's fascinating to me. While the bad actors on the dark web get all the attention, there are and will be many good uses that will allow people to have privacy while using the internet. There is a need for privacy, especially in today's electronic environment.

This documentary is validating my desire to learn how to code and how to secure my electronics and information as well as possible.

I've always had conflicting feelings about the darkweb. I strongly believe that the average person deserves to be free of the companies that harvest every detail of our online lives and I hate that there aren't any good search engines on the easily accessible net anymore that will find sites that don't pay to be high in the findings.
On the other hand, there's a lot of people taking advantage of the privacy for activities that actively and intentionally seriously harm others.
Is my freedom and the ability of 'small' websites to have equal opportunity worth the lawlessness? I'm seriously conflicted.

This is fascinating stuff...I've tried out Tor in the past, but I never got to deep into exploring it....
