Let me tell you about my best friend...

I never would have expected this, but competing with my dog is one of the most rewarding things I have done. Everyone loves their dog, I get that. But when you train and compete together, the bond is different. You're a team.

Quinn and I started our agility training when she was about 18 months old. It started out as just a fun thing for us to learn, and a way to keep her mind and body healthy. But as we progressed I quickly realized, wow, this is FUN. And we're pretty damn good at it. Let's give this competition thing a try. We'd already started to train for competition obedience, so what's one more thing, right?

There's a ton of athleticism involved for the dog, and a lot of timing, body and arm position and anticipation on the part of the handler. Took me awhile (still learning) to get the hang of the whole agility handler thing, since it's worlds different than obedience. But turns out we're a pretty awesome team. I didn't show her as often as I should have, you know, balance between entering both obedience and agility, plus there are other things I enjoy in life. But she has earned her NAJ, NA, OA, OAJ, AX, AXJ, and NF agility titles. Not too shabby for a clumbsy girl and a goofball dog.

The titles are great, and it's a way to recognize the work you and your dog have done. But at the end of the day, it's all about the time spent, the bond you've built, and a great way to build trust and confidence in your dog. I mean, look at that smile!
