Nadi has a visitor, hopefully for the last time

Nadi is my Shih-Tzu mixed breed dog, for those of you that don't know. I am a very nice person and I also have one of the few apartments that allows pets in this area. I can understand why places wouldn't allow pets and if I owned property I wouldn't allow them either, even though I have a dog and love them. Too many problems can happen involving pee and poo poo, as well as damage to property by chewing and scratching and what have you.

However, since I am nice person, sometimes I feel I am too nice of a person, I agreed to look after the dog of someone that I know when her landlord discovered that she had a dog in her apartment even though the apartment specifically says that you cannot have pets there. I called her a moron for attempting to have an pet in a non-pet-friendly condo, but I guess some people just have to learn the hard way.

Therefore, this dog ended up staying with us for 3 days and Nadi's reaction to the other and significantly younger dog, was not good.

Nadi doesn't care for other dogs... she never has. Much of this can be attributed to the fact that she spent her younger years in Thailand and this is not a good place to socialize your animals because there are so many near feral dogs that live on the streets. A great way to have your dog get mauled in Thailand is to allow them to socialize with street dogs. Therefore, Nadi has lived a life of almost completely being separated from other animals.

In this picture, they are both vying for the sunshine on my very small, embarrassingly small balcony. Nadi doesn't like to be near other animals, so she has been forced to forfeit the best spot to the other dog.

They stayed like this for a long time but even when the other dog does so much as try to come back in the house Nadi skitters away and kind of hides. The other dog is far younger and tries to play with Nadi - which is harmless enough but Nadi doesn't like it and there have been multiple mini-fights between the two of them. Nadi is no fighter and neither is the other dog. I think we could put them in a fight to the death and they would both just fall asleep after they realized they don't really have any offensive weapons.

The only time that they will stand in one another's quadrant calmly, is when I am eating something and just like all dogs, they are absolutely mesmerized by a sandwich being consumed. I was a little bit of a meanie here because I gave tiny scraps of the bread only to Nadi and not to the other dog. This isn't because i want to be mean to the other dog, it is because the other dog is not mine and I don't think it is right to give foodstuffs to other people's dogs. I get upset when I see people giving Nadi food because she is actually allergic to quite a few things and i don't even know what all of them are.

The worst part of this other dog being here is the fact that its presence is affecting her mentally. She wont eat unless the other dog is out of the room. She has been so stressed out by the presence of the other dog that she has been frequently throwing up her dinner.

I know that everyone wants to see a pile of doggy puke so if that person is you today is your lucky day because that's what that clump above is. She did this was at least 50% of her meals while the other dog was staying with us. Nadi is not the kind of dog to go back and eat it again later, she is much more refined than this.

Nadi is a sensitive little thing and I cater to her quirks and always will. The other dog is now gone because my idiot friend moved into a place that allows pets. I have already told her that if she needs a dog sitter in the future, that she needn't even bother asking me, because the answer will be "no." I am not going to sacrifice my own dog's health and happiness even to do a favor for a friend.
