Several more sterilizations done in the past few days

in dogs •  3 years ago

I've said it before and i'll say it until my last breath. The most important thing that you can do for the overall welfare of the animals of this planet is to get them sterilized. We do not need any more dogs and cats on this planet and honestly most people who are concerned and moral people should put the idea of needing a designer dog behind them and just get a "mutt."

There are literally millions of dogs looking for homes right now so sterilizing all the dogs we can find is our priority. We did this with 3 new dogs in the past week.

One was a newcomer at a temple, when this happens and the dog is female we make it a priority to get them first in line since we do not sterilize the males in these environments and well, I think you can see what would happen in this situation. By the way, the only reason we do not sterilize the males is because of costs and how our funding is waaaaay down these past few years. We will return to sterilizing the males once our balance sheet is looking a bit better.

The other two ladies came from a local Burmese migrant workers camp and they were very happy to see that we were doing this for the dogs. Some of them even offered to help pay but these are folks that make a few dollars a day and live in lean-to temporary housing that is made from sheet metal and bathe from a large bucket kept outdoors. It hurts my heart a little bit to see that people with this level of poverty are more willing to help than households that have multiple cars.

Depending on their bloodwork and skin condition, we may treat them for parasites and also vaccinate them, but this is normally a decision that is made by the veterinarians, not by us.

As always, I want to encourage everyone to adopt, not shop for dogs and to donate your time, money, or both to your local animal shelter or animal rescue. I can promise you that every little bit helps.
