What do dogs need for an optimal diet?

A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. This wisdom applies not only to humans, but also to dogs. This guide explains what to look for with regard to dog nutrition.
Health begins with eating

Whether a dog is and remains healthy depends significantly on its diet. The animal is dependent on obtaining all necessary nutrients from its food and thereby strengthening, for example, the teeth. Therefore, dog owners should be careful to choose quality products in which all the components necessary for a healthy development of the animal are preserved. In this way, it is also possible to avoid hazards such as salmonella, which occur in lower quality products as well as in barking.

The organism of a dog needs a special kind of nutrients in a meaningful combination. Therefore, it is a good idea to choose a balanced whole food. All nutrients relevant to the animal should be integrated therein. This ensures that all vital ingredients are contained and that the diet is varied and varied.

Meat juice cooking as a gentle method of preparation

There are basically two common processes in the production of dog food: on the one hand, the extrusion process and, on the other hand, meat juice cooking. The extrusion process is used particularly frequently because it is cheap and can be implemented quickly. However, mainly meat meal and animal proteins are used here and no fresh meat. In addition, nutrients are damaged and taste aromas are eliminated at the high temperatures in the extrusion process. Accordingly, fat often has to be added to the finished dry food so that it has a taste at all.

Meat juice cooking is therefore preferable to the extrusion process. This preparation process is gentle, which means that the nutrients in the individual foods are not polluted. The taste is retained and the dog is supplied with all the nutrients it needs for healthy development in the most natural way possible.
Dogs value taste

The aromas it contains are responsible for the taste of a food. These must be spared during preparation so that the dog food still tastes good after processing. The meat juice cooking takes care of that. It cooks fresh meat only in its own nutrient-rich meat juice at a low temperature, which means that the nutrients and flavors are retained. In addition, the fresh meat gives the dog food a natural taste that does not have to be added artificially.

Dogs notice the differences in the tastes of their food. The reactions to this, however, are different. The artificial additives added to the extruded feed sometimes have similar effects as is the case with fast food for humans. The chemicals have a particularly intense taste, but are not healthy. So even if a dog tastes particularly good using an extrusion process, it does not necessarily have to be the best dog food for him. Getting used to dog food with fresh meat is generally accepted and the new tastes are perceived as pleasant.
Dog food should be easily digestible

How digestible dog food is can be seen, among other things, in how the animal reacts after eating. If it lays down in a corner and becomes sluggish, that speaks against the good usability of the dog food. The animal then reacts like people who "over-eaten" themselves on the holidays. It looks different if the dog is vital after eating and would like to move. In a human comparison, dog food is more like a fresh and filling salad that tastes good and does not burden the organism. For example, extruded dog food and dog food made from meat juice can be compared. In contrast to extruded food, dog food from meat juice cooking does not swell up in the dog's stomach due to the fresh meat used and is also easier to digest. The dog has no food belly and can be active again more quickly after eating.

How well digestion works can also be seen in the characteristics of the dog poo. Depending on the size, consistency and smell, various conclusions can be drawn about the quality of the dog food. The feces should be firm, as loose stools suggest digestive disorders. Also, the piles shouldn't be too big. Both criteria are positively fulfilled by dry food cooked with meat juice due to the fresh meat used in the preparation. The extrusion food that swells up in the dog's stomach, on the other hand, usually leads to a large and relatively soft legacy.
