Just a little excited to get to farming I guess and got a little close to the pole hu? “Nailed it!”

@jlsplatts, who covers the tab on that one? Is that an insurance gig? The orchard he’s en route to pays the bill? He’s out of pocket? Do you know how that works?

What voltage burned through his lid without tripping any mains? 4.8?

Nice post sir!

The farmer driving the combine, aka his insurance company.
As for the panel that burnt up, he will be paying that too.
It was a 480v panel that was CT metered and blew the fuses past the customers disconnects
I just open the cut-outs above the transformer and check voltage and I am out.
This is goin to be a hefty bill for the farmer. Not just the pole, but the burnt up panel too. That stuff isn’t cheap either.

If you hear a rumor of a price tag, I’d be interested to know what that one costs.

I will see what I can find for ya brother. I know people on the inside that can get me that info 😉

Somewhere around $25,000. Ouch!! That is just the bill from us.

Dang!! I bet he doesn’t do that again.

Edit: And thanks, I always wondered.

The pole the switch and the hours. Doesn’t include fixing the meter panel that burnt up or hi equipment. Double ouch.
I wondered what the cost would be too.

Damn thats alot a work. Did you get an apple? Lol. Looks in the middle nowhere. Did yall bring lights or someone else brought out?

We have work lights on out trucks but we could use a few more. No apples. 😭😭 I was right next to the acres upon acres of Fuji apples too. They are about a month out from being ripe.

Tell that millionaire you wanna do dlive vid when them apples are good. Shoot sign him up an account and bring em to fff, haha.

That place is. Black hole for cell service I’m glad we didn’t have to search for the switches at night or we would have been lost until the morning. Lol
One of the old Foreman said he remembers when Ralph (the owner) was selling apples out of his garage. Now look at him WOW

Trying to charge my vote bro, i got antsy thumbs.

I want to come to work with you - that was epic. Maybe I can be the guy who takes pictures and buys you a beer at the end of the day. I'm good at buying beer and okay at taking pictures.

Ha ha ha that is a great idea especially a nice cold one waiting when the job is done 😉

Nothing but respect for your trade.

That was an interesting write-up, I've never seen it documented like that. Feel like I learned a bit more about electrical infrastructure.

Take a load off, you earned it!

Thanks, working like this took me back to the early days of my career. Rolling from one outage to the next, stacking up double time hours and kicking that whole sleep thing to the curb. 😉 It was very common to work 24-30 hours straight with no sleep.

I guess that the farmer did not get hurt...right?

80 years old and still getting his harvesting done. He really wanted us to hook that header back on his combine. He must have said it about 5-6 times. He had stories to tell for days but we had to stop him so we could get to work.
So to answer your question, you are correct. He didn’t receive a single scratch. Just a little chip to his long lived farmer ego

:)

Always so exciting to read about your work. Do you get a day off during the week or just bank a bunch of overtime?

Just stacking the overtime. Just in time for a vacation with the family at the first of the month. Oh ya and school is just around the corner so that too. Lol
