Why in the heck would a class take a field trip to see the “dumps”? Sounds kinda shady to me 🤔. Haha

Congratulations on the curie trail, my friend, you deserve it. And to think… you wrote all of this while getting paid the big bucks- bravo 👏👏👏

I was up in the bucket and yelled at my Lineman Brothers,

Hey, the kids showed up to see some action, hurry break something!!!

My boys didn’t break anything but the kids did wave at the “cool guy” up in the bucket truck working
😜😜

🤩 haha… you bet your ass they did.

Hey, @jlsplatts.

I have to say, and maybe I have before, that you have one of the best jobs ever. That said, each time you tell a lineman story it is compelling, entertaining and informative. I generally sit on the edge of my seat wondering what happened to cause the problem and what's going to happen next.

This one looked like it took a whole crew to get back up and running. Funny thing is, I was wondering about the idea of an intentional upgrade, too. Stranger things of happened. However, I like the narrative you gave the dump driver, particularly about the dog. Seems like you would need some personal experience to come up with that one. :)

Curie has good taste, don't they? :)

Just wait until I start unleashing some of the stories of the people I run into and work with. MY-OH-MY. LOL
I honestly don’t know if I would be happy doin anything else other than being a Lineman.
I was told before I started...

You will either love it
Or
Hate it
And if you are in the middle
You will kill someone or
Kill yourself.

For some odd reason I thought that was a great idea.
I will try and post more of my daily stuff. Even though it might seem boring to me it could be informative to others.

Thank you very much for your kind worlds and support.

FOOD FIGHT FRIDAY
is tomorrow

We may have talked about this before, but your love for your work shows in everything you say about it. That's awesome when you can find that thing you love to do and are also good at, and then make a good living at. You almost make me wish I had become a lineman. :) Almost.

SWEEET!! Thanks a bunch @curie

Thanks for sharing your work! I just love when people here on Steemit document their day to day's activities and present them in an interesting manner such as you did in this post. Average folks don't have much clue what a lineman does so it's very fascinating to read and to look at the pictures!

You are very welcome. 15 years ago before I started in the trade I didn’t know what a Lineman was. Now I couldn’t see myself doin any other kind of work for a living.
When the power goes out we don’t just go flip a switch and TA-DA the light are back on. 😉

The lines chose you then...

For sure!!!

Holy sh*t, what a mess :))) I'm just smiling here in front of the screen, not because this is funny. it's not, not for one minute. But because my brother is an electrician and he used to work at scenes like this and right now I'm imagining what would he say :)
Ok, joke aside, that's serious business, I'm always admiring those who do this kind of job exactly because it's dangerous and hard. So you have my respect, hats off! :)

I tend to laugh a little when I see the carnage myself. Especially when I first pull up on the scene, “HOLY CRAP....giggle giggle”
I bet when that guy hit the wire it was like a box truck trying to go under a short bridge. Lol
Thank for stopping by

I would say It's my pleasure, which is but regarding the topic ... :D Let's say I'm glad I could read your post :)

Field trip at a dump? Quite unusual.. Lol!. Well, maybe they wanted to teach the students some things about recycling (hahahah), showing them things that could be recycled but unfortunately ended up in the dump and how much better our environment would be when we, well, take better care of it... That could be it, Lol.. Dunno really, but they really could have chose a better place!

You have a really cool job, I know, it may not be as cool as it looks but its actually nice to see how you guys fix these things.

Oh it’s a cool job, or I wouldn’t do it. LOL. I used to do a lot of work with helicopters which was so much fun. Hard work but a lot of fun.
Hanging from the bottom of the helicopter by a 60 foot rope. Flying at around 80 mph about 5-700 feet in the air. From tower to tower we went.
Google:helicopter lineman. There is some pretty amazing stuff to check out.

I did check that up, and its really crazy! What a fun job you have... Why did you stop working with helicopters? It seems like so much fun...

Congratulations brother Splatts!

👍🏿

Excellent post friend, I've never seen anything like this here in Steemit, thanks for that, it's always gratifying to see new things here .. !! It was a hard work that made your colleagues and you, Really admirable .. Excellent the way you wrote the post explaining the whole process to solve this big problem .. A big hug @jlsplatts ;)

Right on, I am glad I can bring a freshness to steemit. I do believe I am the only High Voltage Electrical Lineman here on Steemit.
It’s all about team work and communication. Never assume anything.
Thanks for the kind words and thank for stopping in.

ohh man this is a glorious and profesional work for an electrician specialist, you really really enjoy your work, a am a homeworker and when i need a work with electricity i do not this, only call the electrician, because this is a dangerous work for me.

It’s always better to take the safe route. Electricity is nothing to play around with... unless your crazy like me.
I’m kidding.... totally kidding.
Jokes just jokes
Electricity it unforgiving one mistake could be your last.

It may be that many of those experiences that at this point in your career you already consider common may seem trivial, perhaps even boring, but for someone who does not specialize in that area, they are very interesting and instructive; where else could I learn that a transformer has oil inside it !? (Now I just need to know what is a transformer :D)

Greetings.

It transforms or steps up/down the voltage. No moving parts. The oil is an insulator inside the transformer or else it would just blow up due to its metal case. That transformer converts 14,400 volts down to 120/240 volts. 240 volts is measured from one hot wire to the other and 120 volts is from any hot wire to ground.
Your first lesson.
😉😉
Electricity is totally fascinating!!

hahaha thank you for that. You just won a new follower (and possibly a student?). I will follow your publications closely.

Look up helicopter lineman. It’s pretty awesome.

You was right @jlsplatts, steemit down, it seems my mood also down together :p It was good to learn about your work. Most of the people they won't know the nature of your work. Such a professional and dangerous work. Beside of fixing the damaged, you need to take care of the safety as well. How long it took your team to fix the damaged? A Big Thank You to you and your team. You guys are great!!
I love the gif of the dog, it brighten up my day :)

It took about 5-6 hours. It was a good amount of work and a good sized mess to clean up.
I’ve been in some nasty storms where all the poles are down as far as your eye can see. Now that is a mess and takes days to get back in working order.

I was hoping that gif would get someone to laugh a little bit.
Cheers

It was a good amount of work and a good sized mess to clean up.

Can see that from the photos you posts. Really appreciate you and your team on this. We need people like you and your team. Appreciate much!!

I was hoping that gif would get someone to laugh a little bit.

Yes, the gif did make me laugh

Ok I have been here for a while how did you pull those text from my replies and make them look like that??
Sorry a little off subject but I figure why not finally ask somebody. Lol

You just need to put ">" in front on whatever sentence you would like to paste. :)

Wow.. that is one crazy accident @jlsplatts. I have seen power poles bent after it got stuck when a huge lorry passes by but never like this. And you guys were amazing, fixing the scary power lines and the pole and all the scary wires. I never knew what is a Lineman. Now I do :D. And yes, the new pole looks really nice :) Thanks much for sharing your story.
Oh, what happened to the City Dump guy who caused all this mess?

Hey @jlsplatts, that was really interesting to learn a bit about your work. Normally we just see those pole and we have electricity, it is normal and we just consider that they are working and that is all right. When I sa that cable salad, it was absolute disaster in my eyes, you deserve a great respect for doing this job and keeping us in safe, warm environment with our electricity powered equipment and entertainment. I wish you all the best in your work and please stay safe for us :)

Cheers, from art-supporting blog @art-venture
