Week 13 (November 2018)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

The Domains

Not much of a theme this week but I did catch a few different domains and I noticed that they all contain letters followed by a word. In general, I'm not a fan of these kind of domain names. I don't invest in names that begin with an acronym but end with a word. I would rather have one or the other. There was one in particular that nearly escaped on a bus...

Take a look below!

NWMechanical.com

The first domain is NWMechanical.com. This domain belongs to a local business in Shoreline, Washington. They offer services in heating, cooling, solar and mechanical.

Overall it's not a bad domain however for this user it's not an exact match of the name they are using for their business. The name they are calling themselves is Northwest Mechanical, not NW Mechanical. I noticed that NorthwestMechanical.com is taken, so it's likely the reason they went with NW.

GZCenter.org

Next up is GZCenter.org. This domain belongs to an organization that is according to their website a,

...center for nonviolent action which seeks the goal of a world free from nuclear destruction and unjust division of humanity.

I'm not a fan of this domain. I get that the G and Z are for Ground Zero, but I don't like domains that begin with letters and then have words after them or vice versa. I feel like the .org is fine for them as they are an organization. I think they should go and get GZC.org which is for sale at afternic.

CAAdams.com

Last up we have CAAdams.com. This domain belongs to a contractor and builder located in Seattle, Washington. Out of the 3 domains today, this is my favorite even though I'm not a fan of these types of domains (letters mixed with words).

Well, that concludes this edition of Domains in the Wild.
