Week 32 (April 2019)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...

The Domains

It's been a few weeks without any domains in the wild but I did not forget about them! I've got 3 to share today, not really a theme to today's domains although 2 of the 3 are religious related domains. I suppose the one thing they all have in common is that they're all 'not com' domains... see below!

LastingNest.biz

The first domain up is LastingNest.biz. This domain belongs to a Green Building construction, remodel, and renovation company of the same name, "Lasting Nest".

I don't mind the words, 'lasting nest', however using the .biz domain extension really hurts this domain in my opinion. It comes off as cheap and unprofessional which really doesn't fit with this company. They have a nice looking website and their work looks great. They just don't have a very good domain name.

GreenLakeUMC.org

Next up is GreenLakeUMC.org. This domain belongs to the Green Lake United Methodist Church located in the Green Lake neighborhood here in Seattle.

I have said this many times, I'm not a huge fan of geographic termed domains also combining words with acronyms is usually a bad combo. I don't like this domain.

JW.org

Finally, we have JW.org. This is domain belongs to the official site of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I love this domain name. It's short, simple, easy to remember, as well as easily associates with the Jehovah’s Witnesses as an acronym. You almost can't go wrong with a 2 letter domain.

Well, that concludes this edition of Domains in the Wild.

All I know is whoever bought fishing.net or bug.net is a genius. Too bad both are currently completely wasted sites!

Haha! I love that!
