Week 40 (May 2019)

Welcome to Domains in the Wild. In this series I post images of domain names that I've spotted out and about in the real world. Then I write a bit about what I think of each one. It's easy to miss domain names, but they're all around us and play a key role in a companies branding, messaging and design. Spotting them and taking a photo is sort of a fun hunting game to play while you're out and it takes very little effort once you start looking for them. Once you start to play, you will start seeing domains everywhere without even trying.

If you catch any yourself, please share them with us all in the comments.

Without further delay, here are the domain names that I found in the wild recently...

The Domains

If you're in the US then you probably just got finished enjoying Memorial Day Weekend. Monday is the official holiday and it makes for a 3 day weekend of time off work for us. One of the things I did over the break was take my dog for a walk at a new park in Bellingham, WA. I say new because it's new to us as we are new to the area but also it's a fairly new park. It's called Cordata Park and is only about a year old. Anyway, on the walk I came upon a particular domain in the wild. Enjoy this special edition of Domains in the Wild!

The park is pretty typical but has a lot of trails to walk through. Some of the trails take you through thick foresty areas while others break out into open spaces.

As I mentioned earlier, it's a fairly new park so they're still adding trails, picnic tables, and facilities. I did find a few tables as well as a bench or two like this one.

There are a few bridges as you go deeper into the park down the trails and I couldn't help but notice that this one had a little plaque.

And what did we find!? A domain in the wild... literally!

ContechBridge.com

The domain is ContechBridge.com. This domain belongs to Contech Engineered Solutions. They build bridges, drainage, erosion control, retaining wall, sanitary sewer, and stormwater management products.

What do I think of the domain? Well, it's okay. It's not an exact match of the company name and it appears that it now redirects to ContechES.com. I'm not sure if the company changed names or this was simply made by a division of the company that focuses on bridges. The truth is I don't really like either domain, but if I had to choose I'd go with ContechBridge.com over ContechES.com. Despite it being longer, it's easier to read. I can't help but read the other one as a plural... what's a contech anyway and why are there so many of them?

Anyway, this post was just a bit of fun but it does go to show you that you will find domains everywhere. I myself can't seem to help but find them... all the time... even when I'm just enjoying a walk through the park. Hope you had a good weekend.

Well, that concludes this SPECIAL EDITION of Domains in the Wild.

Thanks man! 😎 This was definitely a wild caught domain!

Phew! I was beginning to think you had gone too far in the wild hunting those domain names. Nice scenery here too, it's so green!
