Domains with History
There is some interesting history with our #7 on the list, osly.com. This domain (osly.com) has a recorded history of changing hands 4 other times. The first recorded exchange was a sale at Namejet back on March 7th, 2009 when it sold for $340. It changed hands 23 days later when it was sold on Sedo for only $210 for a loss of $130. Most likely this was a failed attempt at a domain flip.
After that the name sat for 9 years until it sold this year (February 27th, 2018) on Namejet for $1,800 dollars. A nice profit of $1,590 over 9 years, getting over 8.5 times the investment. Lastly, the name changed hands on May 9th, 2018 for a loss, selling on Namejet for $1,710. As you can see, this name has gone back and forth from profit to loss over the years for some, but always gaining value over the long term, having now sold yesterday for $2,900 dollars.
With all the back and forth, it looks like this domain may have finally landed with an end user. There is a coming soon page up already on the domain.
Number 8 on the list also has some sales history, (elike.com). It's last recorded sale was February 23rd, 2018 when it sold at Namejet for $3,200. It would appear that the owner took a loss of $400 dollars having only held onto the name for 5 months.
I think the lesson here is that good domains are a better longterm investment than short.
About the Names
It's worth noting that the top spot on today's list was a .io domain extension. The indian ocean domain (.io) continues to be a hot seller in the tech industry with a lot of attention coming from crypto and blockchain startups. An oddity on the list was the #2 spot with a .be extension. These don't sell all that often, only 12 sales have been recorded by Namebio this year and only 36 total were recorded sold in all of 2017.
That concludes this top 10 reported domain sales list.
