Should this @steemhunt be classified as NSFW or not ?

I've been playing with the DApps this week and after reading an article about Osé - A high-tech robotic massager and how it won the innovation award at the 2018 CES show which was later stripped of its award and banned from exhibiting at CES until a huge storm broke and the ban was lifted and the award returned, I posted it on @steemhunt , slightly out of interest as to the reaction from our forward thinking blockchain and also because it does seem to be an excellent and innovative product.

It got banned from @steemhunt due it being NSFW said the Steemhunt mod.

So before I go and berate them on Discord, I am throwing open to the disciples of @dpoll to give their opinion.

I wrote the review in all seriousness and without titilation nor salaciousness but the sticking point seemed to be the use of the words 'g-spot' and 'clitoris'. Shock, horror!

Here is a link to the hunt, which includes pictures of the 'offensive' device!

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your considered opinion.

It's a personal massager. I bet even Victorian prudes would use that

I did upvote the hunt, from a personal point, but within the scope of steemhunt's posting guidelines, adult toys are classified NSFW.

That is also because Steemhunt is a global community and in certain countries adult toys need to be labeled 18+.

BTW, it did not get ban*. That is FUD,it was delisted for not being compliant with the (global) guidelines. Using the term banned is an escalation.

Personally I'm pro such devices but I think it is also important that we consider local situations and not just force our own, often more progressive, position down the throat of others.

My upvote was a personal appreciation. Had I reviewed the hunt I would nevertheless have delisted it all while maintaining my upvote for a good Steem post which I liked.

PS: I did not vote in the poll because the available options are framing. That's what populist

But it isn't a 'progressive' position. It is simply non-biased standpoint thus it is neither progressive nor regressive.
Yes, I rather dramatised this but the point is important, that by disallowing (better word than banned?) this product, you demonise it and the use of it as being an act that is 'wrong'.

I do understand the need for your guidelines, but classifying the words 'g-spot' and 'clitoris' as NSFW as your mod did is absolutely ridiculous beyond words and whatever way you dress this up. It is censorship.

I do understand this is not personal, and as I said in the post, I did post it as much out of interest of the reaction as to the benefit of the product.

It's a shame it was delisted.

As a mod I would prefer those products to be allowed but at the same time I am also aware of local regulations in several countries and the cost of delisting them is lower than integrating compliance with those regulations.

As such I think that's a reasonable decision to have the posting guidelines in that topic to be what they are. Sometimes we have to make decisions we would rather not but it does make sense to make them.

PS: it is not censorship. You can not censor on the Steem blockchain. That's a fact. To censor it would require the witness to agree on rolling back the blockchain to the block before your post was made. The hunt was delisted from Steemhunt yet the post is still visible everywhere else. By which I mean on every Steem interface which doesn't limit to showing only posts made through its interface. And on every block explorer.

Yes. I do understand and you are right ..again! ;-) Perhaps it was the mods explanation that slightly rankled but still interesting to hear the views and opinions, and my Christmas present list is almost sorted so not all bad news :-)

You have a great weekend!

Better answer: Set up an NSFW flag in SteemHunt that will segregate the NSFW content from the SFW content. Separate section of the site, perhaps? It could be useful for people wanting to link to content that they've uploaded to pornhub or another cam site.

The only downside would be potential abuse of the platform. I can see why the developers wouldn't want that. It's partially why we don't allow it on @vimm.

But my point was is that its not NSFW and its most certainly not porn!
Why would anyone need to feel the need to be ashamed of looking at this product whilst at work?

I do agree that Steemhunt should be steering clear of porn and sex, but this doesn't fall under those categories.

I haven't even played with @vimm yet, sorry. I will take a look and I hope its going well for you. It's just me, but generally, I don't do video, neither create not consume but I am trying to get a handle and learn about all the great devs and DApps here so I will give your team a shoutout soon!

Have a great weekend and thanks as always for popping by and your considered opinion :-)

"Don't talk female body parts! They are... female body parts!"

Probably the mod is right, and is just following the guidelines. The guidelines are the ones that should be adapted, this seems overly prude. You didn't even include a demonstration video :D Just photos of a pretty toy. If anything that 'hints' to sex should be 'protected from the sensitive eye' (sigh) then they should do this in the frontend by including a #NSFW warning or so. Or should we strive to innovate on every aspect of our lives except for our sex lives?

Thanks for the link :') (Joking. Or am I.)

Not Safe for Work, in my opinion, is intended for things that are pornographic or violent. This is a girls sex toy and if someone wants to shop for such things it's their choice as to whether they mind anyone seeing them doing it or not....it just nothing! Should we tag underwear as NSFW too? Of course not. I just think it was silly to classify it as NSFW and thus ban it from Steemhunt.......I would wonder whether if it were a female mod whether it would have been banned!

I just felt a little sad that the blockchain took yet another step backwards.

It is a pretty toy and not an obvious ugly dick imitation like a Rabbit! I was rather playing devils advocate, but the point was proven.

If I get a free sample for creating them some publicity and being an 'influencer' it's yours for Christmas lol

You have a lovely weekend :-)

I agree with you :-) There is literally nothing nsfw about your Hunt. And I would personally love if they were open to cool innovative products no matter in what category they fall.

I just felt a little sad that the blockchain took yet another step backwards.

In all fairness though: SteemHunt is not 'the blockchain', but a company/app that can write their own rules about which content they allow. It's not a 'general' condenser like Steemit/Steempeak which should be as open to all kinds of content as legally possible, an app like SteemHunt isn't necessarily bound by those same rules.

There will be apps launched on Steem that are 'nsfw free', or quite the opposite, 'porn only' (no flower pics allowed ;-)). As long as there are users for these apps they can be developed and even become successful. The fact that they are built on Steem doesn't define their rules, the company/editors do. In those case the blockchain only serves to provide rewards and immutability, but will not necessarily be used for the 'free speech' factor.

If I get a free sample for creating them some publicity and being an 'influencer' it's yours for Christmas lol

I'll DM you the address it needs to be sent to :P

Have a great weekend Nathen!

I wonder if they would do the same if you posted an article about the
Flesh LIght. I'll let you google unless you already know.

It's their product, I think it is silly but I also get it.

"Sexual stimulatory device" should be marked as NSFW, I suppose. But I'm not a Victorian one, you couldn't imagine how perverted I am... It's about rules of publications, not against sexual content.

But the rules should be clearly set, I think. If they aren't.

Osé is the only product designed for hands-free blended orgasms.

What is orgasm? 🤔

It's a sex toy, so of course it would be NSFW. 😜
