When the Titanic was going down would you jump into the life boats first?

One of the ship's legacies was that she had too few lifeboats to evacuate all those on board. The 20 lifeboats that she did carry could only accommodate 1,178 people, despite the fact that there were approximately 2,208 on board. RMS Titanic had a maximum capacity of 2,220 passengers and crew

Actually, not so easy to answer, as this particular incidence was before I was born. So, I don't know, who I would have been, what experiences and skills I might have had.

If it happened today, the decision would be more clear for me. Since I actually was a sailor when I was young (on a submarine) my answer would be "no".

First thing I'd want to make sure, is that my loved ones would be safe.

I have some basic training in what to do in emergency situations and would do my best to help an organized evacuation of the sinking ship.

Of course, I would not want to go down with it, and once it is clear, that nothing else can be done, I'd try to save myself... maybe use something as a raft, or get one of these giant kitchen pots to use for my own lifeboat...

Thank you for this well thought out comment. I would want you around if something happened. I am sure there were people like you on the Titanic helping others first. You must have had lots of experiences as a sailor. I must !tip you for this comment. :)

Kind thank you for the tip! :-)

I don't want to look like some saint or something, which certainly I am not. Its just in such a situation the ones who know what to do have an obligation to share and apply that knowledge. And I would expect that as a natural instinct, that when your fellow human is in distress or danger, you want to help them :-)

Yes, I am sure, there were such people, who did their best on the Titanic. Even if it meant to put themselves in danger.

Oh, I agree I worked emergency for many years at the hospital.
