This is a piece that I feel like represents a world I would like to explore in my art more.
A world of bones and darkness and stars and unknowable cloaked beings called the Ritual Masters.
It started out as a series of thumbnails done on post-its while I was at work. (shhhhh)
Once I had a vague idea of what I was looking for(the top right post-it won). I sketched it out and experimented a little.
At one point the staff had a scythe on it but I instead decided on more of a censer type object, a religious artifact used with incense inside.
Once I was happy with my sketch I started to rough in the inks. I used regular old fine and ultra fine Sharpies(the microns in the photo were just laying around).
I knew the background would be black so I didn't have to be that careful with a lot of the outer lines.
Once the details were inked in I drew in all the stars and then it was just a lot of coloring in with the larger sharpie and trying to not pass out from the fumes!
The Ritual Master
Dude this is amazing, I've also recently been considering doing more shamanistic type stuff.

Thanks a bunch! The natural history museum in NYC is a huge inspiration for me. I have hundreds of photos I've taken there of strange and inspiring artifacts. Specifically charms, talisman's and fetishes made from sticks and bones. They call to me :)

I love this and the idea that it started out on post it. I love to hear about the process. I think, as an artist myself, that process plays such an important role in the final piece. It's fun to hear, as well, that you scour the artifacts at the museum in NYC. Following now, too. I love finding other Steemit artist. :)

Thank you! Similar to life in general I think for a lot of artists, myself included, how I feel during the creation is actually the best part. I rarely feel satisfied with the final piece and immediately long for the feelings I have midway through a piece where you feel it all coming together.
