God speaks through dreams: For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it

In ancient times it was considered that dreams had a divine origin, and that those who interpreted dreams were messengers of God. Dreams are often presented to the human reason in a confusing way, that is why the exercise of the discernment is as important as the dream itself, but discern in this case is not the daily discernment that we use to choose between good and evil, but discernment as a spiritual gift: "But earnestly desire the greater gifts", 1 Corinthians 12:31.
Dreams can mean many things, sometimes they are presented to us symbolically, like the dreams of the prophet Daniel; others with a direct message like the dream of the king Solomon when is the first temple in Jerusalem completed (1 Kings 9:1-9).
The Bible explains that God communicates in dreams with a purpose, to give spiritual gifts, advise, warn dangers, and show the future.
Elihu a friend of Job, explains that God communicates to give counsel to men:
"For God may speak in one way, or in another,
Yet man does not perceive it
In a dream, in a vision of the night,
When deep sleep falls upon men,
While slumbering on their beds,
Then He opens the ears of men,
And seals their instruction.
In order to turn man from his deed,
And conceal pride from man,
He keeps back his soul from the Pit,
And his life from perishing by the sword." Job 33:14-18.

God speaks to man to give spiritual gifts, as when King Solomon asks God for a wise and understanding heart in a dream (1 Kings 3:5-15).
God also communicates with man to warn of dangers, as in the case of the wise men: "And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route," Matthew 2:12.
God gives to Pharaoh a symbolic dream about the future, which Joseph correctly interprets as 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine, in Genesis 41.
In essence, dreams in the Bible are the link between man and divinity, and the bridge between God and his prophets: "When there is a prophet among you, I, the LORD, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams" Numbers 12:6.
