Had a long dream about being lost in a strange land and woke up to a surprise

So if you read my blog you already know that I have rather lucid dreams and when I wake up I am one of those people that can remember a great deal of what happened in the dream. Last night was a dream who's theme doesn't often occur but it was an odd and frustrating one. I was lost somewhere and honestly, I don't really even remember what it was that I was meant to be looking for. I was just unaware of my surroundings. I don't recall if it was some sort of city or country that I have been to before or not, I just remember feeling lost.

This has happened in dreams before but normally it will be in a college environment and I am late for class and can't find the classroom. That theme happens in my dreams on a regular basis. This time there was no education involved, i was just.... lost.

The dream wasn't terribly eventful I just remember that no matter where I went or who I spoke to I remained lost and I get frustrated in my dreams often to the point of waking up from them. This time though, something that has only happened to me a couple of times in my life happened. When I woke up I was in a different room in my apartment with no recollection of going there.

I kind of chuckled about this because the sofa that I now found myself on is nowhere near as comfortable as my bed is but I was also quite happy to look down at the floor and Nadi (my dog) was at the side of the sofa as well.

I wouldn't say that Nadi is particularly attached to me. I've seen other people's dogs that will start to freak out if they can't see them or will bark like crazy when they leave the house. Nadi doesn't do that but what she does do is get a bit confused if I am in the apartment, but not in the same room as her. So even though her bed on my bed in my bedroom is a lot more comfortable than this little space next to the sofa, it was kind of heart-warming to see her there watching over me making sure that I am safe.

The strangeness of waking up in a different place than I went to sleep didn't end there though. As I was walking through the apartment during my morning ritual of opening windows and curtains I noticed that the bathroom door was shut. This wouldn't be so unusual for some of you, but I live alone and I never close the bathroom door unless someone is staying with me. The first thing that went into my mind was "is someone here with me?" but I didn't get drunk last night so that wasn't an option of me just not remembering doing something like bringing a girl home with me. I opened the door and everything was as it always is in there.

So here is what I think happened: I was sleepwalking last night and out of old habits decided to close the door. Perhaps the lost sensation in my dream happened because of the fact that I was sleepwalking in a room that is completely dark because there are no windows to the outside world in there. As I fumbled around in the dark trying to get out that must be where the being lost sensation in my dream came from. Why I decided to turn left and go to the living room instead of right to the comfy bed that is in there is anyone's guess.

I looked up the psychology behind this common theme of being lost in a dream and of course they have an answer that fills you with dread and could apply to anyone:

finding yourself in a strange place and unable to get home or losing an item can indicate that you are searching for the answers to improve your life.

Sounds like hokum to me. I'm actually quite happy with my life!

I suppose you could say that I am just happy that I didn't sleepwalk out of my apartment and into other parts of the apartment or even worse, out in the street with nothing buy my pajama shorts on. That would have been embarrassing for sure!

I don't think that I regularly sleepwalk but who knows, maybe I do! Since I live alone it could very well be something that happens every night for all i know.
