So the DRL championship has been airing on ESPN2. Curious, I checked it out. I freaking enjoyed it! It was really cool seeing all the sharp turns they would take. They really went out of their way to make it friendly for people that are watching for the first time as they explain some of the techniques the racers use to navigate the course and the commentators are always announcing what happens so we always know what happens. Currently, the racers are competing for a championship right now.
And they aren't doing this all by themselves. They got some sponsors. Some are really big like Disney XD or the US Air Force. Airing on a channel as big as ESPN is a great way to expand their audience. If the championship never broadcasted on ESPN, I would never have known about this new comer into the shark tank of sports leagues.
They have their own video game for the people who don't have their own drone yet to practice. It requires a controller. An Xbox360 or a controller like drone use will work for this game. It's also no just to practice. One player who got really good at the game got a contract from the DRL to come race in the actual league! His contract was a $75,000 to play in the 2017 season. That's amazing! Now even more people are going to race for the league, further expanding it's market!
Well i'm going to keep my eyes out for this league! If you want to learn more about the league, check out there website here: https://thedroneracingleague.com/
