The Melipona Honey Bees is a fascinating Creature- It evolved to be stingless, harmless on the Yucatan Peninsula for millons of years. The Melipona Honey Bee found here is the only being in the world that can actually pollinate Vanilla- so pretty every vanilla flavour you have ever tasted is from a synthetically pollinated flour.
The Documentary is short and to the point- when the Spanish settlers came, they brought with them the European Bees- the ones with pretty fierce stingers.
The irony is that, these bees started taking over the Melipona Nests, killing millions upon millions of harmless Yucatecan Bees, effectively eradicating them. Nowadays, there are almost no hives left in Nature.
