Finally - a chapter i can COMPLAIN about.
On the surface this arc is about learning, gaining understanding and growing stronger, id say. The problem is the less os is weak. The inquisitor walks away from others to talk to Valkorion, who in turn take this opportunity to isolate him and put him through a sort of trial. The trial ends with a fight against the emperor, where he complains u didnt win yet and that your devotion to the Dark side is not enough. Inquisitors voice actor responds with a voice crackling with emotion, which i guess is an acting skill and then he has some sort of vague gift bestowed upon him, leading to his collapse and awakening in a starship. Problem here is the game structure - which is to say The Script. Why havent we killed Arcann and Vaylin? Cuz it says in the script i cant just fly to the Throne and fight him. Why is Vitiate complaining about u only knowing the Dark side? Cuz its a build-up to whats to come in a moment, but also its to put a player in a condition, where regardless of your alignment, the emperor is gonna complain u r not the polar opposite, cuz u couldnt. Im thinking hed complain if u were neutral too, as u havent devoted yourself to 1 side or the other, not learning all of what either has to offer. And why cant i do that? The 2nd part of the chapter answers that. Adn poorly.
Nox awakens in an old camp and starts investigating the scene, which leads him to Satele Shan - a jedi master. Aged, with seemingly fatter face, she starts coaching u through another "trial", or a journey of walk-and-talk. They meet up with Darth Marr Apparition and then he takes over the monologue. What they talk about is a problem.
This chapter seemed to expand the lore on the Force. That Light and Dark r not the only alternatives, that theres sth more. Theres a magnificent video analysis of Darth Treya character from KotOR 2, which talk about the philosophy of light and dark, how they r mutually exclusive, cuz they have to be and how "grey jedi" so loved by fandom for their neutrality is pure garbage. SWtOR falls flat on its face. Satele says the royal family of Zakuul has some sort of 3rd side of the Force, where its treated like a reward for serving a greater idea - thats fucking stupid, retarded and preposterous, as jedi and sith alike devote themselves to an idea as well - an ideal of peace, sacrifice, freedom, power and so on. After this massive faceplant, support cast continues to spew vague platitudes about finding balance, thats stronger than either of the extreme. U dont get any specifics, however - completely contrary to what was said before.
So yeah - brave attempt, weak as fuck execution.
