Storing Seeds (Be prepared episode 3)

in dtube •  7 years ago

It's that time of year when we have to start thinking about putting the garden, our tools, and seeds away for the Winter. I thought I'd share my method for storing seeds with you. I've had garden seeds last 5 years or more using this method, without much loss of viability. Ao, if you are hoping to save the last of this Year's seeds for next Spring, you might think about giving it a try!!!!

Oohh, curses! We have to start putting gardening tools away.
Not what I like to hear. I keep telling my husband that we need to move to a new zone. He says, "Zone? What state?" I said maybe zone 5 or zone 4. My gardening year is too short here.

LOVE that you're doing DTube videos now too!

The growing season in zone 4 is pretty short, that's the zone I'm on the edge of. Zone 5 would be better. :-)

@Goldendawne, I'm not far behind you.... Planting zone 5.

Hahahaha Cuuuuurrrrsssseeeessss!!!

I have a hard time saving seeds, most of the stuff I grow is open pollinated, and it cross pollinates fairly easy, thanks to the bees. I saved bean seeds one year and planted them the next year, they were not the best beans. I ended up with 3 different kinds of beans from those seeds, and a lot of them were rather stringy. The same thing happened with the squash seeds that I saved. I got gourds the next year.

The good news is that your stringy next year beans, and your gourds weren't GMO.

Yes, there is that.

There must be something missing in my video player, I can't play the video.

I liked your post so much that I linked it in my weekly Look What I Found! You can take a look at it here: https://steemit.com/curating/@stortebeker/look-what-i-found-self-sufficiency-gardening-and-adventures
