I'm not sure how I missed this post, I probably just didn't spend enough time going down through the posts on my feed.
I really like the idea of catching water with swales, if you have a slope on your property it can work pretty well. Our yard has a slight slope, but not really enough to take advantage of. I usually just use small berms and ditches in my garden to catch the water. This year, that plan backfired because we got so much rain that it made the ground too wet for the beans to sprout.
