Artificial Spaces

in dtube •  7 years ago  (edited)

This is an old fly-through animation I did in 2007. It's a virtual flight through some of the 3D-geometries I'm using for my architectural and geometrical paintings.

You will recognize these painting in the video:
Event -->
Nucleus -->
Spehere II -->
Metropolis -->
Artificial Space -->

Dtube failed with a "Video format or MIME type not supported." (Yet I could see the preview frame image.)

The download link (IPFS) worked fine, ~99 MB in .avi format, 11 minute run time.

"The Grid" looks like something from a demoscene video. I mean that in the aesthetic sense of balancing music and 3D geometry. They are absolute wizards at doing so. I like this piece and the ambient music.

"The Event" transition was like being a microscopic explorer, dropped into a world of floating orbs. The transition to "The Core" was done really well. I expected something else until the camera plunged into the narrow dark passage.

Like investigating the nearly-transparent remains of a Phytoplankton resting in the pitch-black depths of the seafloor. Finally at the "Nucleus", where curving arcs intersect and weave in gentle parabolas.

I won't spoil the last bits, but I did think the Global Illumination was perfect. I'd love to wander in those worlds.

Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you @talltim!
If I rendered it today with the current hardware it would be very different. Back then I spent days and weeks with rendering. At some point I gave up to finish it, so it has kind of an "open end".

Dtube won't play it, growing pains I guess...

Yes, this was my second attempt...

It's because it's not a web friendly format. This videos needs to be in a format which is friendly with HTML5 standards. In other words, if you make the same video with A mp4 or webm format.

I'll try again with mp4...

I am delighted. Thank you for continuing to write.

What do you mean? I'm posting every day! :-)
