Because for our own confort/entertainement, we are actively seeking and consuming low quality products rather than considering the mediocre consequences in which we are gonna build (more like destroy) our society based on that very product

My better case in point would be the reboot phenomenon of movies
And the music industry.

Internet definitely offers solace though.
