Hiking the edge of a tectonic plate (Karst edge, Slovenia)

in dtube •  2 years ago

This is our first post covid hike. We started it at the Črni Kal castle, which was built in the eleventh century and is almost a thousand years old.
Then we walked along the edge, actually along the karst edge, which is really a big cliff, a paradise for climbers.

The path took us between pine trees to the first descent which was protected by a steel cable.
We found ourselves under a magnificent wall and discovered a large karst cave. A real treat for our adventurous spirit.
Then the path led over the railway tracks and back up the hill to the top of the karst edge.
On one side a steeply cut wall, on the other side a grassy expanse sprinkled with small pine trees. The route was picturesque. It led us to the fort in the village of Podpeč.

This fort was built in the fifteenth century. A wonderful end to the journey.
