MINTERVIEW: The Future of Collegiate Esports Vol.1 : A Glimpse at HUFS Overwatch Tournament
So, I am back with the Volume 1 of 'The Future of Collegiate Esports" series. Though Korea is well known for a country that brought Faker and Boxer, many students are actually trying really hard to become famous progamer without having the best equipment and human resources. They start by participating in local PC Bang tournaments, become amateur winners, and then start a long journey if they get into pro teams like Kongdoo, Runaway, and Lunatic High...
Most of the amateur and progamers are in their 20s, so they are mostly either high school students or college students. However, as they cannot continue their academia, some of them even decides to drop out from the system. Because of this, they are left with high risk if they do not succeed as a professional gamer. There's no turning back.
Several changes are being implemented within the college environment. Some schools are now providing esports courses, scholarship programs, and varsity programs to the students. However, the opportunities are limited. Shouldn't we support them by establishing a sustainable environment?
Let's find out how we should approach college esports!
